944s2 values?.
Discussion
Hi there,
I am a BMW guy, but looking for views on what the 944 market is like. My dad is about to put his up for sale, it's very good condition, 71k, in factory condition with no mods. Been garaged etc. full re spray carried out a few years back, it's White with Black interior.
Any advice welcome

Sounds promising, but what condition is it really in and how much maintenance work is outstanding? It might be perfect or could need £3-4k spending on it
Belts, waterpump etc.., engine mounts, suspension, brakes (any plate lift?)
Clutch change?
Rust? (inside the sills, corroded fuel & brake lines)
What's the interior like? seats OK?
Any interesting options? LSD, A/C ?
Pics would help..

Hi,
Sounds interesting, as there are few left under 100K miles on the clock. There's a market for cars in immaculate original condition that would easily push it over £10K. I guess the price range is currently £5K for a decent one, to perhaps £12K or £13K for a concourse example.
A lot depends on the work it's had done over recent years. The problem with a low-miler is that age-related issues still affect them, and are less likely to have been addressed. Has it had a clutch, head gasket, when were the belts done and did it include a water pump, timing chain etc., have the brakes been overhauled, that sort of thing.
Potentially the largest cost on a 944 will be rust. If the respray was a good one, then that adds significant value.

Thanks for the replies, I am going over to parents house tomorrow to look out the cars history file, there is a lot of it. I will check the specific points you guys have made, as far as I know it's mint, bought from Porsche specialist dealer up in Edinburgh. I'll get some pic as well, also has a 944 plate, not a value thing I know just adds to the car.
Prices have risen over the last couple of years. Largely down to less cars being in good condition, less with lower miles, less with full history and few owners, that sort of thing. It's pushed the values of good examples up, just as the cost of fixing a bad one pushed the price of ratty cars right down.
There aren't many S2s making the over-£10K prices that good turbos regularly go for, but I think we're nearly there for exceptional ones.
