That JZM car is going to be a great test for the market, JZM probably have twenty people registered with them as being interested in these cars and none of them have bitten so it's gone on to the website be very interesting to see how it does.

For goodness sake, if you can afford it buy a CGT. A 997 (whichever iteration) cannot be compared in anyway whatsoever.

I think you might want to look at CGT prices!!!! You would have to pay double the price of a Gen 2 RS so a bit of a silly comment really :-)

I think he meant the comparison between a GT3 RS 4.0 and a CGT...

However, I also think anyone contemplating either would be put off with servicing costs of £20k plus... I know I would be unless I had millions...

An RS is reasonable when you look at it that way! smile

think what he is on about is that the CGT is a very specialist car, ie the engine started life for an F1 team, as such it has associated costs.......though I tried to buy one last month, looked at all the service bills from day one over 7k miles, not unreasonable.....

The RHD 40s prices are supported by the " micro" export market for these cars. Whilst this " exit door" holds prices will remain....

the 4 yr engine out service is expensive for obvious reasons but it's not crazy and certainly not £20k unless the clutch needs replacement. As you say, servicing is certainly expensive but not really unreasonable given what the car is.

In eight years of ownership and 18,000 miles the total servicing costs for the car have been less than £25k - so an average of £3k p.a. The engine out service (c. £8k) was to allow for the valve clearances to be checked and adjusted. My understanding is that this can now be done in situ. However, I suspect many owners, like me, want the engine taken out every 4 years so the car can be fully checked over.

Of course, if replacement parts are needed these can be expensive, but all in all I think the running costs are exceptionally low for such a bespoke car.

And one small correction, the engine was originally designed for Le Mans. It is actually remarkably service free, e.g. as a result of gear driven camshafts.

Cheers

many thanks for the update on the service costs, I only have the costs up to 7k, On the engine, think you will find that it was originally designed for the Footwork F1 team, but lack of funds etc, then tested for Le Mans, but Porsche not allowed to go up against Audi at the time. This is my recollection.....?

Ah didn't know the valve clearances could be checked with the engine in place now actually (from what I had heard very very few have required that anyway). Replacement of slightly leaky seals on lightly driven cars apart, would there be anything else regular maintenance wise that would require the engine out service to be done as scheduled if not for the valve clearances? Or would it more just be done as a full checkover of the car as you say.

cheers

The original service was to check valves in situ and remove engine if adjustment required. Then porsche changed it to engine out to check,oh and while its out porsche can do the clutch recall / upgrade at customers expenserolleyes
The belts need changing any way which is done on engine out also,as you say if spread over the 4 year period not bad costs compared to other so called supercars.
Parts are expensive if required, great car.

Seems to be sold. Went pretty quick, so close to the asking price I'd imagine

Interesting comparison CGT - v - 4.0RS

For the beards, Is there a CGT equivalent to the 73 911RS? 904/6?

Respectfully don't see the CGT v 4.0 as a comparison

From a race Competition point the 4.0RS has no history, not to be confused the early 70's 911 RS's that actually ran in competition, nothing special about the parts used either ie, 7k over the Gen2? So it fails down on history and value. Not good on road either they are horrible......

How ever its 2014 that makes "valuation" any thing is possible. Albeit the miro RHD export market has woken up that they ant worth 200kplus over Gen 2s

just my 2p worth

Is it me or are JZM pretty much dictating the market for these? They ask whatever they want and it is seen as the 'new market price'. Owners make a profit and the dealer does well-everyone wins?
It is you. Most of JZM cars will be sale or return. Prices are dictated by what the market will pay. Neither JZM nor any of the specialists have created the glut of people prepared to pay substantial amounts for given cars, they are merely providing an outlet for the transactions. There are more buyers than cars right now which creates inflated prices. Unfortunately, for those that want to use these cars as they were intended, the cars have become like works of art and are mothballed. I am guilty of this too.

Apologies for not responding sooner.

I was speaking to the Service Manager at Leeds last Saturday, he mentioned a CGT service bill of £27k - maybe this included the clutch and PCCBs?

My point was it's a fair bit more than a 997 RS to service...

All from memory but service costs are nowhere near that. 1k ish for an oil service and 3 to 5k for a major service. But they are annual. 3 oil, 1 major over a 4 year period.
