Whats the next Porsche to go ballistic?
Discussion
986s have been hinted at a few times here, and whilst they will never be super desirable, I wouldn't be surprised if values of good ones start to climb at some point in a few years. To me it seems that they are very numerous indeed, so they are scrapped without any thought for impact damage or an engine bork. They are now cheap enough that Barry can afford one and start generally buggering it up before sticking it halfway up a tree. There are loads out there with poor colour combos or Tip boxes...perfectly capable but perhaps not desirable.
But I reckon in 10 years time, if you can find a good one with the right spec, in original unmolested condition, people will go all misty eyed about 6 cylinder N/A engines, manual boxes, hydraulic steering, the last "older" style dash and the classic shape and be prepared to pay accordingly.
I'm sure we all remember a time when you couldn't give away a fairly straight Mk1 Golf GTi, Nova SR, Escort XR3i or similar, and they were bloody everywhere. They weren't proper sports cars, they were performance cars for the people, and good ones are now worth big money. They have nowhere near the pedigree or performance of a Porsche, and no badge either.
Anyway, here's hoping!

Its amusing to cast an eye back.
996 Turbo prices have all but doubled just as predicted.
Decent mid miles cars that are manual specifically are
45 to 50k.
Its a curious market, as the punter can now almost choose from a
2009 997 or an older 996 Turbo as the prices are almost similar
with 6Ts now outstripping 997Ts. Which proves that 7ts have yet
to bottom out.....
Demand is huge for them, far outstripping the supply, you cannot see
996 Turbos for the buyers, you cant see the buyers of 7Ts for the
amount of cars available, if you follow.
Hang onto your cars people for a few more Summers, I know I will be.

And, Botin that's your new handle by the way.Who gives a $h1t....
Trader speculation at its worst helped assist the value on these cars
significantly. About £1000 a month conservatively estimated.
And who gives a st? Well me, and you, as it bothered you enough
to respond..........
Any other takers, on for a good auld wind up and found one bit
of bait so far...

The red devil; you seem like the type of guy that would be better placed driving and selling BMW 3 series to angry sales guys, from your comments on Porsches you seem to have missed the memo.....Trader speculation at its worst helped assist the value on these cars

996 c2 has been appreciating since last year. Any older Porsche that's well looked afterNext Porsche is start really going up is 996 C2 mannual, even now they sell v quickly when advertised......
in going up in value, end of. The 928 will leap, the 6 & 7 gt2s will leap again.
Manual 7 Ts will go up, autos wont. And as I said keep them for a few more summers,
at least one more, interest rates are going nowhere so the bubble will continue to
expand. This is free advice by the way, don't take it from the smart arse 9 to 5s trying to
sound good, you only get honesty here....

The 3.2 Carrera Coupe.
Given that you were once able to get them for £8k or so and I know someone whose insurance valuation has crept up annually to ~£45k now (it is a very nice one) I would say that they have already gone personally. The 3.2 Carrera Coupe.
Personally I am expecting Porsches to mostly flatten a bit for a while (compared to what they have been doing). Still potential in an early manual 996.1 C2 if you can get it at the lowish end of the market I reckon and I still wouldn't write off the potential for some of those sub-£4k Boxsters to be able to double their money in time with some sympathetic ownership (big percentage, but not much capital growth to be fair though).
But for potential gains I would have expected very early manual 928s are probably on the cusp of a bona-fide classic status boom?
