Are there any 996 variants that may be worth more than their 997 equivalent. If not, then 996 turbo values could prop up (or push up) 997 turbo values.

They may not go ballistic right now, but mint 997 GT2's that haven't been messed about with are truly rare, probably only around 40 or 50 left in the UK and even fewer straight cars without history, and extremely rarely if ever any for sale, there are usually more RS's for sale, seems most people who own them are sitting tight and holding on to them.

Thanks
Can't recall the magazine mate to be honest think it was a Porsche one, I was quickly browsing whilst at the motorway services, but I do tend to agree and think the prices will rise, don't think this of the 997t though

On the subject of collectables, anything with a chocolate engine has no future.

Boxsters, 996, 997 --- gen 1, are a boundary for Porsche to be survived ...

Gen 2, is good.

Aircooled, is good.

924 / 944 / 968 / 928 --- could be good.

The ones that will be worth the most are the landmark cars in Porsches history, first's and last's, low number cars, homologation cars, racing cars --- just tick the boxes, but most importantly, enjoy the driving experience.

The CGT scares the **** out of anybody who hasn't budgeted for the risk of the cost of replacing the clutch ... or who prefers small cars ... which I personally do.

funnily enough I said 996 turbo.
Just read an article from a collector of all exotica and general classic cars and he has predicted the same that the 996 turbo will certainly rise and looking at the prices they are starting to, they are and have been the bargain of the century for too long.
Yes many folk and porsche dealers are now saying the same thing.
They are already on the turn compared to a couple of years ago, and a great car to own too regardless unlike some older air cooled stuff which are dynamically awful and very slow in comparison.

GT2 RS would have to be a candidate for a safe long term hold, can only head north, Shirley?

I'm close to buying a 996 Turbo off a mate, it's a 2001 in silver, black leather, manual with 110K on it with a fair bit of history, it's £20K and I reckon it's a sound investment....I've almost convinced him it's a good idea as he only paid £15.5K for it...watch this space

Sounds like an absolute minter and as you say a sound investment (it's already worth at least £4.5k more than he paid, if you are lucky enough to prise it out of his hands for that) but at such low mileage you could never actually drive it could you? A shame, but with the likely returns you'll achieve it's simply not worth it. As more and more owners hide similar away, a mere sight of one will become rare. And silver. Hens bloody teeth. Well done.

110k miles doesn't sound like low miles to me.

Sarcasm is lowest form of wit, regardless of this I'm going buy it given the chance because I believe it will rise in value. I agree that it's not a particularly rare car and the mileage does not make it unique in any way but it will be a usable investment pretty much like my GT 3.

Have a nice day

996 GT2 has room to rise some.

964 Turbo 2 3.3 will get dragged up, such a great, underrated car too.

930 turbo will keep on going.

I have looked at many and you have to spend 50+ for a minter.

Easy to drop 10-15k on getting one perfect and thats before an engine build!

Yes but that can be done over a passage of time, find a solid base one then improve it.

That is what I did, in 07 could not find one now for what I paid then.

And that car is so low as to be no 'investment' other than self comfort in man maths. Buy it and enjoy it, it's cracking value for what you get but don't kid yourself or the missus or yourself or anyone else or whatever / whomever that you are doing anything other than making the costs a little gentler, let alone picking the next car to go ballistic wink enjoy.
