I can't see the 996 Turbo going up in value much - just too many built, watercooled, the unloved 996 generally - yes it's a lot of car for the money that has probably done it's depreciation, but it won't rise substantially over the next 10 years and as for going 'ballistic' forget it.

Crikey! There's current a Black GT2 RS popped up on PH Classified's at £345K for a RHD, lot more expensive than the LHD version.

997 GT2 RS

That seems to have gone pretty ballistic.

A couple of other recent Hexagon cars were in the Bonham's Goodwood auction over the weekend having been "sold" by Hexagon ........ and neither sold at the auction either!

So....., why has the world gone mad for older cars, and this doesn't just affect the Porsche market, it also appears to filter through to all types of makes and models from Ford Capris, to all sorts of Porsches and Ferraris!

is it because :-

1. people are a little more flush with cash?
2. Nostalgia and people are wanting to re-live their youth?
3. Modern cars are so anodyne and soulless?
4. Everything now has an automatic gearbox that's great at first and soon dulls, recent videos from Chris Harris and Steve Suttcliffe both rave about Manual's again, and how they now really miss them?
5. Everything now has electric steering and falls in the same as 4.
6. People want to drive the car rather than the tail wagging the dog?

Or is it's all of the above?

And then the really rare cars are just out of control in terms of pricing!

Answers on a postcard please....

Yes. Having a modern car is a bit like having a 'Stepford Wife'.

Simple..too much cash about and returns on cash even more pointless now than probably any time in history as central banks continue their ridiculous monetary policies.House prices high, bond yields low and equities at highs mean investment choices are poor and all circumstances of too low interest rates, when we see some return from 'emergency' level of rates it will be the first test as to whether this is a bubble or not..also parts of the World buying these cars that never used to like China/India etc reducing supply in U.S And Europe.

Most of the above list,no bubble as not much else is growing like classic/ltd ed cars are so far.
Wait until next year with people in control of own pensions, classic cars can be part of your pension.

What is concerning is cars/auctions etc claiming all sorts of history and matching numbers etc, supposedly significant cars need some significant inspections for a wise purchase.

Bog standard 996 Carrera and C4s would be my shout for next Porsche on the up. Won't go ballistic but it will have its day. Such a sweet drive compared to the latest and greatest from all manufacturers.

CGT set to go ballistic....

4.0 will be £500k soon. There were lots on here scoffing at this suggestion when I made it shortly before the JZM car sold for £350k. Well done to those that have them.
