You know the answer to that ! but if I threw a sports exhaust and the h&r at the 996 it would add some character and even better handling. Personally I think colour is hugely important to a car and that's what let's the 996 down a bit, it's a bit boring looking.

....having said the boring comment, let's stop for a minute, it is a 911, the 996 will have its day....

for a low miles minter thats been pampered all its life thats the money. I was surprised myself and mid 50s not early 50s. How many few owners, low miles, sent on a trailer to be serviced at Dick Lovett all its life C2 RHD original panel manual 964s are there? Companies like Adrian Crawford and Hairpin will probably pay you £50k for a similar car in the trade. I'm not a track junkie but enquired about the three LHD low miles RS german sports cars have. All of them were circa £220k so by comparison not bad if you can find a minter RHD 964 C2 for £50-£60k. The car I bought I missed six months ago at Hairpin as I thought £40k was too much for a C2. It was snapped up while I was still in thinking mode. No chance I was going o let it happen again as its the nicest C2 I've see for sale since 2007 and I've always wanted one but never been able to find an exceptional car.
Have you ever owned a 964 before?

I asked myself would I have paid 48k for mine back in 91. At th time I bought it it had done less than 50k miles with zillions of bought from new extras. The answer for me at least was no.
When I bought my 993 I asked myself would I have paid 54k to own from new and with over 100k miles on the clock, the answer has always been yes.
Have you tried a 993?
IMI A, that sounds a lovely car you have bought. Please share some photos when you collect it. Astonished at the rise in price over the past year - I achieved a great price for mine early this year which I think set a new level and really didn't think they would climb much higher as quickly as that. Don't regret selling at all though as I love the current car.

Considering buying a 993 to go with the Spyder.
Will do smile
Sorry I'd missed you have already bought the car, best of luck with her and to enjoying the experience wink

The PSE transforms the character of the 996.

Id be surprised if there is a difference between final drive ratios, maybe there is someone with adenoids on here that knows. It would be small if there is one, highly unlikely to be worth the ballache of a trans swap.

Also, albeit probably because i am a blinkered pro 964 biggot, i found the 964 5 more satisfying to row through than the 993 6. Cant beat the way that motor revs out from 4k to the limiter biggrin

^ speed transformed my 964, not only is the gear change its self far better, but would swear the car had another 30bhp, the ratios feel far better, power in every gear, I could not believe how much more pleasurable it is to drive with 6 gears

I agree.
Find the 5 shifter in my great.
The way it sweeps from 70-140 in third is epic. No need for another gear to get in the way!

I take it you refer to kph in 3rd as it surely wont do that in mph!

The 6 speed can sometimes make more sense if you're changing the power delivery of the engine - in particular where the power comes in during the rev range as the 6 speed box is geared slightly different. However for a stock engine I think that the 5 speed is great!

The 5 speed in a 964's far superior to drive.
The six in the 993 means youre either in fourth or sixth, unless you're caning it up through the gears.
I much preferred the 5 speed in the 964.
Sublime.
Macho.
Simpler.

For all the improvements the 993 made over the 964, street drivability was not one of them.
The 964 C2 is a better drive than the 993 C2, when you caning it.
All day.

However, if I was going to Madrid, the 993 would kill it.

Er no.

Please bear in mind the 964 I am talking about revs to 8,000 rpm, which makes every gear longer.
Should also modify sweeps to lunges, but think the gearing is great and still a standard five speeder.

Love the Macho, from Stuggartmetal!
Makes me want to slap some Brut on and wear my medalion while shifting from forth to fifth while grunting with the effort!
Suppose the four speed boys in the 930's ride their nuts in to work like space hoppers on this basis?

Serious revs there Charge but even @ 8000 rpm a standard 964 G50.03 gearbox would only reach 120 mph. Maybe you have different ratios?

You've got the later reduce-the-emissions -20 gearbox in your 993 Lardster.

Try a car with the shorter-ratios -21 instead of the -20 and you'll change your mind.

Trust me.

The turbo box has taller ratios, so maybe that's what he's referring to ?

Bearing in mind it managed 212 mph in top,

it will easily pull 140 + in third ;-)
