One of the main reasons that I recently bought my 964 targa was because I really needed that rear screen in my life. It's such a beautiful sweep. Perfection.

it was sold to me provisionally. he had not picked the car up at the time the ad went up. vendor backed out and sold to someone else. Disappointed as was looking for a C2 Coupe for ages. Who knows I may even get a better one!??. Ever the optimist
Have you had a look at the two at RPM and the two at ePorsch? Choice of colours... so long as it's Guards Red you're after.
Yes those cars aren't a touch on the one AC had advertised. 28,000 miles and fabulous period colour scheme. Car was perfect to my eye.

I certainly wouldn't say no to a 964.....but if I could only have one 911 for everything- ie: long motorway
jaunts and blasts in the country etc I'd take the 993 everytime. The 964 may have the classic 911 shape/headlights but the 993 is also a beautiful design.
It is amazing how sudden the press did a U turn- when I was looking to buy an aircooled 911 just a couple of years ago all the articles I read were negative about the 964 saying they were flawed and constantly suffering mechanical problems etc fast forward to now and they are the bees knees and 15k dearer.

This!! I spent 18 months looking for mine (between 2001-2003) and read all the horror stories regarding leaking engines (a lot caused by idiots not using the correct oil), rust (which was usually the result of windscreen changes) and total electrical failures (as a result of relay problems - fixed by carrying a spare). Of course the AC was crap (but that what windows are for) and there is a potential for a Dizzy belt snapping, but in all honestly that's about it.

On the upside you were getting a classic Porsche lines, power steering and ABS, a 5 speed gear box, proper brakes and a car which was pretty much handmade (before the Porsche accountants became involved).

I did look at 993's, but decided they were too similar in performance to 964 to justify the additional cost (about £10K in 2003) plus neither the front nor rear end looked quite right to me - especially the rear. I also looked at 3.0 and 3.2 but seriously did nothing for me in the standard form - especially the 3.2 with its tea tray spoiler (which I think still looks Chav today).

So in the end I purchased my C2 manual 964, which I has become part of the family now and to be honest is now in better shape than when I bought it for £12,600.

Not the fastest, not the best handling but certainly one of the loudest and most reliable.

Think it would look better without the stripe (IMHO, of course wink)

Of course. All taken last Sunday after a early morning Hoon followed by a frenzied pre-winter Zymol Session

Good luck in your quest. Patience and a good PPI are the keys.

Oh, bugger. It took me weeks deciding on this - following my "should I get a stripe thread" and now I am questioning it all over again.

biggrin

At one point it looked like this - complete with bonnet strip. Vinyl is a powerful drug at times, however the boy and the wife made me see sense.

We've has a C2 since 2008. Wonderfully compact and a joy to hustle about.

Wanted to sharpen her up a bit with a few choice components to get it to handle the way she makes you drive!!

Got a bit carried away though...

Ruf aero kit and front splitter.
Ruf suspension (Bilstien)
Ruf engine map
Ruf wheels
Ruf strut brace
Ruf twin exhaust
Ruf mats :-))

Plus
Cartgraphic Cup pipe
9m decat
4 pot rear brake conversion
Goodridge pipes
Hid conversion
RS rear bumper/cup mirrors/steering wheel
RS clutch and flywheel
4 port rear brake calipers

Plus a complete engine rebuild, hence its now completely dry - at the moment.

Next step will be a trip to Ray West to discuss squeezing out a few more ponies, and some lighter 17" wheels, and put the Rufs into storage
Then a trip to Southbound for a lightweight interior.

Nice car Glaston, nice list of Ruf stuff. I'm well jel - I have the Ruf wheels and a set of billies but that is where it ends.. :-(

Afraid I would agree that it would be better without the stripes, and normal ruf badging too.. (the big red ruf logo has a whiff of the ill advised AMG or M-power badge IMO). What was the non-turbo Ruf 964 called? Cant remember..

Yes, you did ask for my opinion LOL..

I did indeed.smile I stripe will come off in early 2015. As for the Ruf badge. Perhaps you are right about the Red - again I will give it some thought. Perhaps I will get it painted Viper green (to match the Engine fan - would be fun) smile

On the topic of normally aspirated Rufs there are a couple I can think of, the SCR and the RGT.

I may have just bought one. C2 in guards red. Feckin gorgeous. Original panel car that was available for £40k six months ago at the hairpin co. Kicking myself for not buying it earlier but finally got my mits on it subject to Adrain Crawford being happy with it when he picks it up. Never dealt with Adrian but a very very easy guy to do business with. Liked him very much and haven't even met him (well I've seen his vids!).The yellow 993 turbo they have for sale at the mo is lovely too. £120k - I need to work harder!
So low mileage 964's selling for north of 40k now? when did this suddenly happen...
