I recently bought a "ex demo" Porsche turbo 's' thru a friend of mine, with 160 miles on it which was sold to him as a UK car, from a UK porsche dealer. Only when I got the car back to my place, after paying for it, did I find out it was a C98 ( Cypriot spec ) car, the speedo face had been converted from KMH to MPH, with a new face, but the odometer still shows KMH, the car had the PDI in January in Cypress, and the car was registered in the UK April 2014. I complained to him, and told him that I wasn't happy with an import, with the speedo messed around with, and not a full two year warranty as it should have. He took it back and repaid me in full, without any problem, he complained to the dealer, and they told him to "fk off" as it was his problem not theirs. He ended up selling it back to them for £20,000 less than he paid, and they made sure that they wrote C98 Cypriot spec over their purchase doc's

Moral of the story, next time you buy a new, ex demo or used car from an official Porsche dealer, make sure that they confirm in writing that it's a UK delivered car, not an import

Mate

facts are 100% right, I have a copy of the original sales invoice to my mate, Vin check report from Porsche, copy of the front page of the service book, and a copy of their purchase invoice when they bought the car back from him. He has also copied me in on the email trail with them.

I was out of the picture when he returned my money, So it was up to him to sort it out with them, but they basically put the "fear of God" up Him , he does a lot of business with them, and they made it quite clear they wouldn't deal with him again, if he made a fuss. I spoke to Porsche GB, and they told me there was no rule against OPC's selling imports, but I would have thought at a minimum, they should declare it. Even if there is no official problem with them selling imports, I would have thought selling any car with a speedo thats been fked around with was a no no for an OPC. I have been in the car trade for nearly 40 years, and I can tell you if i sold cars on the the basis that this dealer did, I would be rightly be, getting my collar felt, by trading standards, and the Police.

I only registered on this site a few hours ago, I have been meaning to for ages, as I also have a 991 GT3, that I am still waiting for the engine to be replaced in, only had the car since December 2013

So why would you buy a car from a mate, who bought is as an ex demo from a dealer? Doesn't make sense. Maybe your friend's not really your friend? Where is the dealer, I'd like to see this car?

Hi

My mate is a dealer, and so am I, does that mean that is OK for us to be fked by a OPC, I asked my mate to buy the car for me, as I know he deals with that group

sorry about the spelling of Cyprus, didn't have my glass's on when typing

they didn't want it back on SOR

Why would you you want to drive a car with a KMH speedo in the UK, I could do it myself for a lot less than 20K

If you had bought the car from me, would you be happy, and not kick up a fuss

email he sent to the group buyer :

Evening ****, I can confirm that I now have cleared funds as a cheque had been paid into my account not the chaps payment that I was expecting.

With regard to the 991 Turbo S, ******* which was sold via ******, which my client saw advertised on the Porsche GB website for sale by Porsche ******** with nothing in the sales description stating that not only was it not a Uk supplied car, but that it was in fact a C98 car not even a C16, that my client instructed me to purchase on his behalf.

Following our telephone conversation where I voiced a lot of the things I had been told by various people within Porsche and from people who know a lot about importing cars from Cyprus, quite a few things have been sitting quite badly with me and I would be grateful if you could clarify a few of the things that we spoke about.

That it is ok to sell a C98 specification car that was originally supplied in January 2014 in Cyprus, as a April 2014 Registered car on the Porsche UK website without clearly stating where its origins were.

That when buying the car into stock all due diligence was carried out confirming that the car had its speedo changed from KM into MPH and it was recalibrated by the Cypriot Porsche dealership that pdi’d it or another Porsche dealership that performed this obviously vital task.

If the above task was performed by a non-Porsche approved garage are you able to confirm that when the clock was altered from Km into miles that the mileage wasn’t altered? And if this was performed by a non-Porsche approved technician is it possible to sell the car on as a used verified mileage car knowing that the speedo had been tampered with?

If a non-Porsche authorised technician performed this crucial change would the warranty still be applicable for it to be sold by a Porsche main dealership?

If the car was converted to miles on the speedo by a non-Porsche approved technician but hadn’t been recalibrated with the software meaning that for every .621371192 of a mile driven the odometer registered the car as driving 1 mile, would this be suitable for sale via the Porsche uk website to a paying customer?

When I told you that a Uk dealership refused to even have it on SOR on its forecourt as it wouldn’t want to sell a C98 car in the uk, you said that you have bought into stock lots of C98 spec cars with no issue?

When you were told of the problems with the car and that the buyer would not accept the car due to the points above and that the car needed to be returned having not being driven you offered to buy the car back for £125,000 not the full sale price. I did not think it was fair for Porsche ********* to suffer financially as they were asked to get the car for me after my client saw it advertised on the Porsche uk website, my client most definitely shouldn’t suffer any financial loss, and when I found out that the car was a C98 and the issues that involved I immediately gave him a full refund, so I have taken the shortfall.

I would be grateful given the financial loss I have suffered if the points above could be confirmed so I can pass all the answers to my accounts when they seek an explanation as to why when returning a car that was at the very best suspect from no fault of my own why such a loss was suffered and why a full refund wasn’t received.

I look forward to your reply.

Regards

Can't sell, was written on the print out by the sales manager of my local OPC

the rule still applies, get in writing that what ever you buy is a UK (C16) supplied car, otherwise who knows what you will get
