Shame about the lack of engine. The way the market is though, i'd be optimistic it can still make money though.

I had thought of putting some money into Cup cars (and Ferrari 355 Challenge cars) given the relative low cost compared to road cars. It made me laugh to think the actual race cars are worth so much less than the 'pretend' road versions!

When i was at the Silverstone Classic there was a box fresh Mint Green 964 Cup on display (i think it was auctioned). Both the cage and back of the Recaro seats were body coloured and it just looked terrifc. Whilst i don't think any 964 is worth the money they are going for now, it certainly caught my attention! So engine aside, the question is how easy it is to obtain the original parts to make it as per the factory intended.

I imagine once done the fact it is RHD and has a good backstory would overcome the engine issue, if the rest of the car looked mint (or Rubystone!).

Must've missed this thread. David and Paul Robe helped me out a lot on parts when. I was restoring my 2.4e back in 1989. At the time David ran his carpet business from his home and raced a 2.4e. Iirc he ducked out for some time and I think got back in to racing via this 964. I wasn't aware it was a genuine RS though?

Maxted Page often have ex race cars with provenance for sale, maybe worth a quick call.

I sat in that car many times in 1992 at CS engineering in Fulham. CS being Craig Simmiss who used to work on my 964 cab and always had a workshop full of amazing 911's. He later took a younger partner called Russell who eventually took over the business and Craig went back home to New Zealand. I would think Russell is still in Porsche land somewhere. Does anyone know what he's up to today?

Craig was a successful race driver in his own right. I'll put the feelers out with a mate in NZ who's involved in the motor racing scene out there. What was Russell's surname?

that car is owned by a mate of mine [and pher]. it was racing at the classic and not up for auction. owner is a porsche nut and bought it a long time before the prices went silly so he still races it as intended whenever the chance arises.

Not even close to a 935, god knows why he/people refer to it was one.
So whats a 935,ctr makes a 935 look slow
Sorry, that makes no sense to me. If you had seen a 935K3 at pace in period you would realise that a CTR would not see where it went..

So true. If it wasn't for the sake of marital harmony, I would gladly snaffle a 996 Cup to sit alongside my road car as a 'spare'.

Not a 964 Cup. It's a 1992 964 M003 N/GT in Mint Green. It was not in the auction but it was raced at the event.

I'd really be interested in the progress of the restoration on this car. What specification has been decided? Road car or original race spec etc? It certainly won't be cheap! Any chance of an update / photo's?

If you know your porsches the ctr has most of the track records for porsche 911,i dont get why people sneer at the ctr,its one of the quickest out there and would lap most 935

Nah

To add you were the individual who started making silly statements I was simply passing a general point about the Chamblain car from which you seem to think I have some CTR issue, which I don't. The evolution of the 935 to Its end is still the most evolved 911, maybe the GT1 aside. A CTR would not lap anywhere near as quick. You are comparing a Group 5 race car to a fast road car if I'm grasping your point correctly?
