1st service on the cayenne due - 2 years (only done 15k). £420?! (plus brake fluid).

Dont want to go out the network, any likleihood of getting this down?

What do they do for that - just an oil change?

If it's your first service (on any prestige car) you need to stay with the dealer unless you are keeping the car forever or don't care about the resale value.

First service at a useless garage could just be changing the oil.

Porsche will check over the entire car, anything to be changed will be done so under warranty assuming no service items like tyres or brakes.

I wouldn't even consider going elsewhere

As above. Play them off against another OPC if needs be, or perhaps ask if they do any discount for Porsche Owners Club members. I joined up on TIPEC purely for an onwards OPC discount as it was financially prudent to do so (sorry TIPEC).

Definitely keep it within the network though unless you want to start answering questions (if it even gets that far) from future buyers wondering why you've skimped on the maintenance, or conflating indy servicing with a general "cutting corners" attitude, even if you've still ended up paying close to the same price at indys!

Thanks folks.

No plan to go anywhere but OPC on a sub 2 year old car in warranty. Have asked Guilford and Mid Sussex to beat and also trying to borrow a Macan for the weekend to sweeten the deal wink

Mid-Sussex are great to deal with.

Hang on a minute. You're driving very expensive premium vehicle, it only needs servicing every 2 years, yet you want to get it done for buttons? If it is only seeing the a technician once every 2 years, you should expect they'll go over it with a fine tooth comb and inspect EVERYTHING, as it will be another 2 years before they see it again. At worst you'd expect them to check the safety stuff. This doesn't take minutes, and @£400 sounds like a bargain to me. Not sure what the OP's beef is? Don't buy a Porsche if you don't want to pay to look after it properly.

Get off your high horse. The old 'you have a expensive car you can afford it line' is rather moronic.

I don't want it done for buttons but at the same time 570 for oil, brake fluid and a check over is steep.

Anyhow thanks for your constructive input. The guys and girls at Silverstone are looking after me.

No high horse here fella, the moronic bit is you not asking the OPC what a minor service entails before coming on here whining about OPC servicing prices. The usual way to suss out process is to ring 2 or 3 OPC's and compare the rates.

You're paying as much for the shiny showroom and free tea & coffee as much as you are the labour and parts for the service.

Just say you're a Porsche Club member to get an instant 10% off parts, at the very least.

Yes. But once you see what it does actually involve (about 30 mins work, if that), you resent the cost much more.

It's pretty annoying that the service price rises with the price/prestige of the car.The oil costs the same, the mechanics get paid the same, the rent, electric bill etc is the same at a Porsche garage than it is at the Renault garage that serviced my van last week for £159.00. If I'd kept my GranTursimo a service would have cost £1100, it would have been done in the same workshop where they service the Fiat 500's for £200.

Not wholly true - the OPC will carry a lot higher overheads (more staff per customer; more expensive location; more floor space; nice biscuits, etc).

No plan to get into a debate with people on this.

Just a note to say thanks to Silverstone for a great service as always, although you'd think they could afford to fix the leaking roof hehe

I've had Silverstone OPC do the regular servicing on my 2004 986 since I bought it. The menu pricing is very reasonable and I get to tank around the countryside in a brand new Porsche while they do it. I deviated from the norm this year to have an indy do it and it was more expensive.

Take your own oil in sealed unopened containers. Buy it from somewhere like Opie Oils and it's a third of the dealer price.

Not all OPC accept that... Sytner is an example
