I'm surprised no-one's linked to the UK 80 mile 991 GT3 that was written off due to aquaplaning. It was before the engine issues came to light which was ironic because the accident caused the engine to land about 50yards away from the car!
I have about 5 posts above yours. Couldn't find the PH one so linked to rennlist

If you are driving a porker in serious rain (such as the Marks & Spencer luxury Belgian rain often found on the E40) then what you do is slow right down, pick a lorry and sit behind it. The twin sets on the axles of an artic strip lovely wide tracks through the water for you (wider than the tyres on a 911 and at viable width too), taking the aquaplaning risk right down. If on Cup/Cup+ tyres you don't even have a choice in this as if the rain is heavy enough (sh****g it down) they can 'plane at anything from the mid to high 50mph range, so you will be in the lane with the HGVs anyway because you can't safely go any faster. Cup 2 is much better (broadly comparable with part worn Supersports) but you still need a bit of caution if the standing water is significant.

Simple I guess just slow down a little ....... Have had many interesting moments aquaplaning in porsches , 3am in 24 hr just coming onto the HAnger straight a little river runs across the track and big downpour ... bit of fun . In old 64 Rs on autobahn with cups and only the circumferential grooves left , changed two lanes without wanting to ........... needed to change underwear later ..
Happens in all wide sports tyre shod cars to an extent .... going slower in poor conditions helps , even the "good " drivers would

Yep, my 996 turbo X50 is a joy to drive in the wet it puts a previous heavier E60 BMW 535d Sport Touring which couldn't put it's power down in the wet to shame.

So is mine but I do remember hitting a stream of water on the Autobahn that caused a 'Oh fk' moment. The front went through fine but the rear skimmed over the water and felt like it slipped a few feet to the right.

During a very wet day at Sp thougha, the turbo was fantastic.
