Actually I think white GT3's with black wheels look great but I'm biased.

OP buy the car in the best condition.,
I would not swap my gen 1 for a 2 and risk getting a car that had been maintained less especially as these cars get used for track days.
That's not to say the opc cars are not up to standard of course

This is driving me mad, slept on it overnight and now unsure again!

Still prefer the looks of the Gen 1 but think the Gen 2 might be the better overall package with the 3.8L engine and the extra bits and bobs.

Stupidly, I didn't drive the 3.8L car as I thought I'd made a decision. Is there much difference in terms of performance/handling? I'm no race car driver, will I really notice a difference?

Mileage aside. The gen 2 is the marginally better car, 3.8 has more torque, more hp. It will pull away from the gen 1 pretty noticably, It also has the 380mm front brakes with the steels, bi metal discs. C locks are a bit of a pain, if you like to spanner stuff yourself this needs thought or investment in some tools.

I know this wont help you, but what a lovely problem you have!!

Lets face it, they're both fabulous, just buy the one you 'want'!

The aero on the Gen 2 is noticibly more efficient also. Particularly useful if you intend to stretch its legs on track or autobahn.

on all the vmax days and track days the gen 2 does not really pull away noticeably at all, they ni on have the same engine. 1/4 miles times are 0.2 between them best recorded and the cars are 20bhp apart !!!

I was very impressed with the Gen 1 that I drove. It was actually faster than I thought it'd be. I'm driving a 500bhp C63 at the moment and I'd say the GT3 was probably faster which I was surprised about.

How does the Gen 1 handle multi story car parks? Is it really a no go area? I've read about fitting a cup splitter, is this made from a different material that is more bendy? I've also looked into front lift systems but the only one I can find is over 5k.

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm not sure that any GT3 is a multi storey car park kinda car!

Maybe you need a gen 2 with lift?

997.1 GT3 would NOT be fun in a multi storey car park. I have to attack my shallow drive at a 45 degree angle to avoid scrapping the splitter.

Would sound fabulous in a multi storey tho! lol

Yeah I'm thinking probably avoid the multi story car parks lol.

I think I'm going to go with the Gen 1. Its the car I drove and I was really impressed with it. Its only done 13k too which is an added bonus. Its basically the exact spec I'd go for and its fairly close by to me. I've already paid a refundable deposit and just have to call later today to confirm the deal.

I can collect Saturday afternoon biggrin

997.1 Front splitter is only about £100(ish) budget for one a year at least. If it is a problem you can (as I did getting my car on the French car train to the South of France) always just remove it temporarily to get over the obstacle and replace when done. With it removed the clearance is not so bad...

Thanks for the advice, how long does it take to remove/refit?

Does it just clip off? Any tools required?

Has anyone pointed out how cringeworthy the topic name is, who "pulls the trigger" on anything but a gun? confused

I dont know why people worry about the front splitter on the 997.1 GT3, its a consumable part, it will get worn/torn/split/scraped etc

I have a 997.1 GT3 and I have taken it into multi-story car parks, on and off ferries and up and down hairpins on mountain passes, sometimes it scraped and sometimes it didnt but I did not let it dictate to me how I should (and where I should) drive the car because, as I said earlier, it can be replaced!

OP, both cars are amazing and you will not go wrong with either one.

1st time I drove my mates 997.1 GT3 I ripped his splitter off...

he had 2 and just swapped them over and repainted the one which was off with a matt black paint.

If you keep ripping it off though you will end up cracking the locating brackets on the body work.

have you looked at R8's :-)

Have looked at them but they don't really do much for me. The 911 is a shape I have always loved.

Funnily enough, a neighbour has a V10 R8. I haven't seen it recently and someone said he got a bit over ambitious on a corner and stuck it in a field! Doh!

Not even then. You squeeze the trigger on a weapon, not pull it.

Anyone notice how cringeworthy it is to use the word 'cringeworthy' when you're not a 14 year old girl?

Back on topic, it sounds like you will be using the car more on the road so i'd opt for Gen 2 as it is easier to live with. I personally think it also look nicer.
