Picked up one of these at the weekend.

Can anyone tell me:

1. Do you need to cradle your phone somehow to view out the front screen in order for the trackapp to work? I can't find a cradle anywhere in the car to slot it into.
2. Does the installation of a Cobra (now Vodafone) Cat 5 system invalidate the warranty? My understanding is that the Porsche VTS is just a branded version of the same system however when I spoke with Tracker for an alternative price they said that they wouldn't install for fear of affecting the warranty.

Thanks,

J
Interesting. When i called Cobra (Vodafone) for a quote they told me they couldn't quote to fit to a Porsche as they deal with them direct. Reading between the line that probably meant "we wont quote because then you can see how much you are getting stiffed by Porsche for the VTS."

From what I understand, the VTS is already fitted and the payment to "fit" is basically them turning the thing on.

I'm pretty sure there is no tracker fitted to the GT4 from factory unlike most other porshces. I doubt very much that an aftermarket tracker will affect warranty. I am having a cat 6 fitted by a third party supplier due to my insurance.

It won't affect your warranty until you come around to having your vehicle inspected for warranty renewal. If Porsche know you have a non-approved device fitted they can request that it's removed or replaced with a Porsche item prior to approving warranty.

This has happened to me. I used to own a 996 Turbo which had a tracking device fitted from new (arranged by Porsche - from memory a Cobra). A few years later Porsche introduced their own PVTS. At warranty renewal I had to either have the tracker removed or replaced with the PVTS.

Its ridiculous that they won't warranty a car with an aftermarket tracker. How is it ever going to affect the car?!

You're attaching a non Porsche approved device to the wiring of the car - I guess. I agree nonsense.

Good question - I can't work out how to download new circuit maps either.

Now that's what i call a nicely specced GT4,agree with focker re guards and white best for GT4 and GTSM as a safe and classy albeit expensive option.Mine also PCCB's and Dunlops.
Took mine for a 30 mile jaunt late tonight and found traction is not the best at 5c but the Dunlops are very good in the wet.Averaged 20.5mpg driving like a hearse which is a record for me,how come the GT4 is so thirsty, its very puzzlying!.

Strange as I'm averaging about 26 mpg, still running in so not going above 6k revs but you must have a very heavy right foot or live next door to a track. But does it really matter.....
Enjoy in good health which is all that matters in the end.
