Maybe the mule is possibly the RS then? And the normal GT4 will have no adjustable options? The mule seemed to have the holes in all the right places...

it's a nod to practicality I suppose, it looks like the change was mandatory to allow the rear hatchback on the Cayman to remain functional. no such requirement on the 911.

Where, other than in internet fanboydom, has there been even a hint that there will be a GT4 and a GT4 RS?

Nowhere. The spolier is the standard GT4 one. No point in wasting time debating minute details when the car will be revealed in full next week. Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you for both clarifying that point.

I did ask the same question many pages back but it got lost in the landslide that has been the various squabbles, todger waving and general pre-pubescent 'banter'.

The implication is that as Porsche have committed to homologating the Cayman and the motorsport team are developing the GT4 road car that there will be an RS version.

Demon said he switched his deposit to a GT4 RS, don't know if that is tongue in cheek or serious.

The OPC schedule for 2015 includes the GT4 and Spyder replacement, no RS. Nobody out-with head office in Germany will have any clue wether they make an RS in the future. All internet chinese whispers.

The 'deposit' with an OPC, on a car that hasn't officially announced, is an interesting point.

OPCs are now allowed to hold deposits until Porsche UK has officially confirmed a car. Of course a dealership can take your money but imho someone would be foolish to believe it was a firm offer of a car.

The OPC I deal with summed it up perfectly: 'we've been sent many letters of intent and also have been asked to take deposits; however, we'll get limited allocation and the cars will go to our best customers first'

The inference was that this helps reduce speculators and also keeps long term customers happy.

This last sentence makes me laugh I know a chap who has had every gt3 including rs4.0 and moved all on within 6 months at profit from same opc!so that makes him a good customer.
The sad thing is all those who have loved the Cayman since day one won't get one and all the gt boys who slagged off the Cayman get a gt4!

I agree with both the scepticism and that many good customers flip cars after short ownership periods; however, I'd suggest it is the lesser evil than allowing order books to be filled with speculators who will flip the car from new.

I don't want a cayman, not even in GT4 form but I do want this car when it comes to be wonderful. I want it to show that there is still a part of Porsche where their more traditional - and now anachronistic - philosophy holds. I want this car to be properly built, something that pulls the rest of the brand up by its socks. Something that offers a tool for a driver rather than a bloated sofa with maximum bandwidth hiding its weight behind new tyres and tech, its edge so fuzzy it can no longer be called one.
I suspect there are plenty of others in the same boat, quietly cheering on what this car may be for the same reasons even though they won't buy one.
My expectations are tempered somewhat by being jaded and grumpy but there is no part of me that wants it to fail.
It's all going to be in the details though, not the headlines when the curtain finally lifts in a week.

Agree 100% with this. Its how I feel too,

I hope Porsche pull a corker out the bag I really do. It will give me hope for the brand and make me look forward to what they do next.

Would I buy one? No thanks, I'll stick with this beauty biggrin

I've just been on the Porsche site getting an idea of cost on a GTS to my spec. It's surprisingly easy to approach £70k! I have no interest in the GTS, but wanted to get an idea of option costs.

What do you see as essential options? I'd definitely be ticking the £2,832 custom colour box!

I still think it's going to be a 3.4 - Porsche don't seem to be confident about the 3.8 9A1 for racing do they?

Interesting comments today from a German poster -

Yes, I understand that, but sometimes you can not write where the info came from....

In case of the wheels and tires, I can write more. That the optional wheel set will come with 245/295 is from the dealer configurator 2 weeks ago.
All GT4 prototypes had Michelin Cup tires and wheels with a new design. That are the facts.
The rest is my guess.
I think the wheels and tires on the prototypes were the optional wheel set. Optional is also the club sport package (that's also a fact (dealer configurator)).
I guess that a stock GT4 is more street oriented and can upgraded with the wider wheels with Cup tires and the club sport package.

Maybe in the US the car will come in a different configuration as stock, but here in Germany is almost everything optional and you have to pay for

I don,t go for any of that, and no point looking around, we only have 4 days to wait for a real spec in full.

If the GT4 is going to wear the RUF look-a-like multi-spoke 5-nut wheel we saw on the mule then happy days.
