manual only, the latest rumour on planet 9
If it is, I am still 'in'.

But, if there was a choice between manual and PDK, I'd probably spec PDK.

So, I guess it doesn't matter much to me...

I just hope I get a car if it's very limited and I am already only 6/7 on the list!
dont worry, its a stick....

I'm probably a bit late to this party, but I've just added my name to the list at Hatfield - they were giving me no clues whatsoever regarding spec, or even how many names are down. I must confess though, I don't have a particularly strong relationship with them having only bought one car there in the past. Will look forward to receiving more info as and when.

GT4 race car will have no bearing on the shift in the road car. It will use an Xtrac, Sadev or Hewland dog box with pnuematic shift. PDK is way too heavy for racing and not serviceable. Makes sense to release as a manual as they have all the work done on this.

GT4 racing is looking very cool with Lotus having done the work to homolegate the Exige (not released as they have GT4 Evora) and BMW in the wings with the 1 series.

If this is a true homologation car it could be very special indeed. The bench mark is the Ginetta G50 that is ground up race car. Cant see Porsche wanting to release a car to race teams that has its a** handed to it by a low volume producer.

They will lean on the SCO to get the regs changed a bit to penalise Ginetta and other low volume GT4 cars. Would be great to see Porsche, BMW, Lotus and others scraping with road based cars.

Really hope it is released as a sanitised version of the GT4 Motorsport car. I don't think it will be but not long to wait to find out.

That's exactly what I'm thinking too jeweller, IF (big bold if!) Porsche really do want to sell GT4 spec cars to racing teams they will need to base it on a road car that has the same aero, engine & pick up points-that could be this car.

As well as the Ginetta, the Aston Martin N24 seems to be another example of how it's successfully done as I posted above.

I spoke to them at the ring & I was thoroughly impressed at what they told me they changed on the V8 to go racing-it didn't amount to much!

Brochure for Vantage GT4 goes through the details;
http://www.astonmartin.com/en/racing/race-cars/van...
Note the gearbox options too, can't imagine why you'd want the sportshift or manual on the race car but the options there (perhaps some club series demand it?).

Regardless, a Cayman that is homologated to compete with that is a Cayman I really want to buy.

I think they do I am involved in GT racing and my team met Stefan Ratel to discuss this point.

GT4 will be the way forward. GT3 is now way too expensive and they cars are very AREO led.

British GT want a GT4 only grid as does the SRO. If Porsche do go for it, lots of others will join

Problem for me is then I will sell my 991 GT3, cancel the GT4 and get the race car and drive around in a Renault Megane so I can afford to race in British GT!

Well, you can't please everyone but if they did manual only, it might be seen as slowing the Cayman down.

PDK-S and no corner cutting please.

Yeah, that would be my preference just so it was the 'ultimate' incarnation but I'll still take a manual.

The important thing to me is it's badged GT4 and has a large capacity (i.e. 3.6 or larger) NA flat 6.

I'm on the list. Third in line at my OPC.

Not wanting to fan the flames of speculation further, but the feedback I received was that 44 cars were being produced in the initial run.

Just to be clear is that 44 cars for the whole of 2015 ?
I've heard more cars from a different source

In the absence of information, speculation.

I think the debate about whether the Cayman is allowed to emerge from the shadow of the 911 really depends on where they take the 911 in terms of performance. 991.2 will see increases in the baseline models (as I’ve been told) so 400bhp might actually keep it in the shadow of the 911 if they add 25-50bhp to the entry level 911 models. Any overlap will be dealt with by limited numbers and create a halo effect for the Cayman series. Maybe this will stimulate interest in the rest of the Cayman range and resurrect sales without impacting second hand stock prices at dealers. Knowing Porsche, I suspect 375 bhp is where they will put it.

For those decrying PDK, I guess it depends on whether PDK-S is offered. Those in the ‘I know but won’t tell you’ camp say it’s manual only which I’m sceptical about due to emissions and the whole ‘Intelligent Performance’ mantra. I get the GT4 class requirement but it doesn’t wash with me. Manual doesn’t make sense but I feel it would be the option I would take unless convinced by PDK-S. If they offer it. I’m not pursuing ‘ring lap times. I’ve not driven a 991 GT3 so can’t comment on PDK-S but have several friends with 991 GT3s and they’ve not complained. I just hope they don’t neuter it and that they retain the looks of the mule that has been extensively photographed.

I’m at my OPC on Saturday but when I gave him a nudge last week, he didn’t know anything or wasn’t willing to commit to anything on email. He may be more candid in person.

No - I didn't push for anything as, to be frank, I suspect I've missed the boat, but thought I'd get my name down just in case. The more I think the more I wish I'd done this weeks ago, when I meant to - but the wife bloody well couldn't wait and had a baby which distracted me a bit.

+1 (minus the wife and baby but adding a multi-day wedding etc)

If it's only 44 on this run (suggsting a similar amount on the second run?) then I suspect I've missed the boat frown

if it's 44 cars, and not a 4 cylinder I reckon this will be a cast-iron investment. My gut tells me more than 44 cars though...
