I'll stick with what i posted yesterday, if porsche are making this to homologate a car for GT4 entries it will simply get whatever engine they see necessary to win
Teams wanted to use the GT4 in the VLN (with plenty of Caymen around) but the car Porsche are building does not fit into any of the classes...

So it's going to cost!if they build the car with a gt3 kind of powered engine then not much change from £100k!
Cannot see it as a £70k car with a sorted engine only if it's an ecu job plus reworked exhaust ala caymanR

APLOL1 you're not coming across as a fan of the GT4.

an I ask your views vs say a GT3? Tks
No disrespect intended to Apolo but he's the sort of person that can (and will!) buy a GT3 AND a Turbo AND a 918 AND an F-car AND a McLaren as well as the GT4 etc.

I've no doubt that the car will be very special indeed and certainty worth adding to a collection. But if you're someone that has to choose between the GT3 and the GT4 etc etc then that's a very different decision to make!

Well, it depends on what one is after and how much badge snobbery there is for the cayman vs the 911 that one is bothered by.

If some of the rumours/specs are actually confirmed, one will be a car that

actually is setup and homologated to go racing and will be a motorsport proven car
with a mechanical LSD/passive dampers so that car will be more natural in feel to most other high performance sports cars
lightweight

and the other will be the 991 gt3 that shares very little (and certainly not in drivetrain or engine) to the 991 cup/rsr cars and is very dependent on it's various electronic systems.

Yes agreed. So what would you do? Already being told by most to stick with the GT3 if I want only one car.

My Gt3 is very useable everyday no problem and I imagine a GT4 will be as well.

APOLO1 Whats made you suddenly want in?

Speculating that a gt4 could be 80k, is it value at approximately twice the price of an R?

Granted an R will be 4 years old at this point, & if the 4 matches it's potential, I'd have to say maybe it is?

If I was in the same position as APOLO1 (i.e able to buy one as a gamble) then I would be 'in' as well - just for the hell of it.

IF (and thats a big IF) the GT4 is a limited production run then whoever buys one will be able to run it for a few months and then sell it for more or less what they paid for it anyway (if not more) so the risk is mitigated somewhat.

The problem is if you need to sell a car that you are currently happy with to take a punt on the GT4.

size of the engine not the appeal over the 991 gt3, it's the overall size of the car which will appeal more for uk roads. and dare i say it, the gt4 may actually have more aesthetic drama than the bigger car.

more usable power, better gearing and higher revs. tie that up into a better looking package costs £25k less and you are onto a winner.

That's the other point. What will be the base price do we think?

After reading the comments on Dan Trents GTS exhaust article, if it comes with a "farty-poppy" exhaust, I guess a few deposits will have to be refunded?

It's all speculation at the moment as we don't know the full specs for the GT4 yet.

FWIW I'd guess:
If you missed out on the GT3 (or never wanted one in the first place you'll love the GT4
If you own a GT3 but are not on the list for the GT4 you'll remain extremely happy!
If you sell your GT3 to replace it for the GT4 then I'm sure that part of the time you'll regret it, part of the time you'll be convinced you made the right decision and the rest of the time you'll be too busy having fun to care.

In other words it won't be 'better' or 'worse' it will be awesome but different!
