That graph doesn't go back far enough towards performance to put a 996 RS on it though does it?

I posted this in the RS thread but I thought you GT4 boys would be happy to see marketing have positioned the GT4 as 'rawer' (less usable day to day) than the GT3...

The blue circle is reserved for the RS.

I wonder why they say it is less day to day useable? They both only have 2 seats and in terms of luxury spec items they are almost identical, but the GT4 has more luggage capacity, does more MPG and surely costs less to run? I can't imagine there is much in it terms of comfort on a long motorway run either...

confused

Front lift I'd say.

Hmmm, I test drove a 991 2GTS with PDK and a 991 C2 with manual today and by a quantum mile I thought the manual was the best. I for one almost certainly couldn't live with PDK on a daily basis - I'm sorry but PDK is just a glorified automatic and saps 90% of the fun out of the ca, and yes I had it in "manual shift mode" all the time. I do accept that PDK-S may be a whole lot better however.

I am willing to accept front lift could be a decent positive, but if that's it I still think the GT4 has it in the daily usability stakes!

To clarify:
You are saying that a car that you haven't driven (with a different manual box to the car you actually drove) is like to be more usable than another car that you haven't driven (with a different PDK box to the one you actually drove)....

Not sure I'm convinced..!

Had you bothered to read his posts, rather than just jump in to repeat your ignorant claims about PDK-S, you'd have seen that he referred to usability, nothing to do with 'liking driving'.

And, as always, you continue to fail to understand that plenty of people that 'like driving' like gearboxes like the PDK-S.

You've previously claimed that 'auto' boxes are not 'involving' and so claiming that one auto box is 'more involving' than another isn't even consistent with yourself.

I think you may have missed that I did qualify my comment with "I do accept that PDK-S may be a whole lot better however"... readit

Well it was hard to asses the GTS package as PDK really ruined it all for me and I ended up preferring the C2 manual, but that must have been purely down to the gearbox really. I found had the GTS in sportplus and manual shift all the time with PSE on and it the car was fitted with -20 SPASM.

I found PSE to be a little muted and too quiet (but then I am comparing it to a unplugged V12). Whilst both cars were more surefooted than mine in the cold & wet I would have preferred them to be a little more tail happy at normal speeds round corners and roundabouts. I found the ride a little soft too, but its certainly more comfortable over speed bumps and bad surfaces than the V12V (but that isn't what I was wanting). The lack of buckets in both test cars could have been a big issue here as I have in my V12V and I'm not really fond of the std Aston seats either. The manual gearbox was really nice however, I could definitely live with that, and the finish of the GTS in half alcantara with red stitching & carbon trim was really nice.

I concluded that I suspect a 991 2GTS manual, with -20mm SPASM always set in sportplus, with the PSE unplugged and bucket seats and aerokit might be quite a good car, but then I'm not going to find one of those to test drive anywhere so I'll either have to order one on blind faith or pass. Overall I'm fairly sure a GT4 would tick my boxes far more - but then I'm not going to get one of those it would seem. I'm sleeping on it for a few days...

Once again you appear to believe that you need to explain why people like manuals - you fail to understand that for some of us (who actually have a lot of experience of both) we like both and appreciate the differences!

Subjective, but we've been here before.

And we are going over this nonsense again, purely because you wanted to 'attack' the PDK-S (again) rather than actually respond to the comments in the post I made.

No claims were made about it, aside from the fact that it would be very hard to make a judgement on 'usability' between one gearbox and another if you've tried neither...!

And ironically, you agreed:

It was you that went on to attack PDK / PDK-S in your usual boring way.

anonymous said:

It was you quoting the 'off topic' nonsense about 'pressing buttons'.

anonymous said:

Repeating the same nonsense doesn't make it any more accurate.

I think ultimately you'll get one. Maybe not this year, but you'll get one.

Is the 991 GT3 the best car you have ever owned? and the 2nd best?

Definitely the best by a long way, but it should be for the price, and I tend to keep cars for a while so have only owned a limited number of cars (although I have driven many others).

If I had the funds / space I'd definitely like a GT4 too, having spent a decent amount of time in a manual Cayman in the last year.

Sadly i dont think so mate. My OPC said I was 21st confirmed depositer on a list of about 30 before they closed their book on the Thursday.

Despite being a huge dealer they have been allocated just 3-4 cars this year and probably less next year, so reslistically there is more chance of me flying to the moon. That said a few a little ahead of me who also arnt getting a car are retracting their deposits and Im in no hurry for mine back, but even still... The only real hope is if Porsche GB up the UK allocation to satisfy all 400 deposits. frown

Thanks.

Were you thinking of this as a replacement for, or an addition to, the V12V?
