The thing I particularly like about the GT4 engine spec is the reason I like driving in the wet.

Making the car behave on the throttle as well as the steering, and holding a car between the hands and right foot, is poetry in motion.

The mid range torque of the mid engined, compact and comparatively light weight GT4, should be wonderful.

I can't wait.

Race Yellow, Clubsport, PCCB, Sound, Passenger three point, Bucket seats, plus a few cosmetics ....
I have absolutely no idea what the above means. Maybe its a language I do not understand?

Maybe if one overlapped a performance petrol engined sports car vs the Gt4 bhp and torque curves we would have a better understanding. An Audi TTRS perhaps?

Personally I would have preferred a 3.6 screamer with less torque but we can't always have what
we wish for.

Anyone care to share their chosen spec?
Sapphire Blue metallic / PCCB's / club sport package / passenger harness / buckets / black leather interior with yellow stitching (I know, pathetic) / PCCM / phone / DAB / Bi-xenon dynamic lights / non smoker package - I think that was it, touch over £80k, ouef

My spec is very humble.
- Yellow, if it looks as good at Geneva as in the photos. If not, probably silver but possibly red.
- If the standard wing brackets are the same colour as the standard wheels I'll have that but I think they are silver in which case I'll choose black.
- I'm a long way from circuits and will use the GT4 as a tourer as well as for ragging around the Alps so I'm not cluttering up the rear load space (one of the main attractions - together with the bigger front boot - over a GT3) with a cage.
- No-cost 64 litre fuel tank (why do they have a standard 54 litre?)
- Bucket seats
- Cruise control
- Floor mats

Pity there's no front axle lift option. The front overhang and height appears to be as restrictive as on a GT3 and is the one thing that detracts from the car's practicality.

I have a 997.2 GTS and 996.2 GT3

Over the last 1000rpm the GTS (6500-7500rpm) it feels like it pulls just as strong as the GT3 engine. The GTS does have the X51 unit though, so I don't know how much of that too end zip can be attributed to that or if the GT4 lump will feel similar. My point being though that the standard DFi engines can be made to feel as good (or pretty damned close) to the Mezger at the top end in terms of performance.

But it does lack the character of the GT3 engine though, no matter how potent it feels.
I thought about waiting in case there is a GT4 RS or 981.2 GT4 with the X51 'power kit', which does have a very GT3-like power curve and would seem a logical progression, but despite Preuninger's assertion that GT cars will remain naturally aspirated for at least the next few years I decided not to take the risk of him being overruled and the next GT4 being a turbo 4.

Preuninger did say however that the hp in the GT4 are in particularly fine fettle and that the dual mass flywheel is almost as light as a single mass (i.e. RS), so let's hope he has worked some magic on the 3.8, which has been played down to avoid treading on the 911's toes.

Take a passenger ride round a track with Chris in his current R or preferably when he gets his GT4 and you will understand what he means. However, I wouldn't recommend it if you have a weak disposition. wink

Is there any details of this R anywhere?

Not sure what you mean? Chris has had his Cayman R since new. He's got a number of older Porsche toys but it's the R that he tends to use for trackdays.

Hello everyone, I was told today that my car will be delivered in January as they are first making the left hand drive models and will only start maing the RHD versions in the autumn.
I'm guessing that until the 3rd March when they are supposed to be finalising the build schedule and quotas, we will all get differing information.
I'm just glad I managed to get one, at least I found that out today smile

I've got a deposit down at Sutton Coldfield and was told I'm 7th in the queue. When I asked the sales guy about sorting out the spec etc, he told me there was no rush and I haven't heard anything for a few weeks.

I'm starting to think I'm on the wrong side of the bubble and they're stringing me along in case they get any more cars. Anyone had a similar experience or am I being paranoid?

cheers

Got a message from my dealer in France today that the factory has just confirmed my order, I have 3 weeks to finalise the spec and delivery will be in June. If RHD cars are being built later the Factory is probably still working out numbers and the schedule. My dealer thinks only 42 are coming to France.

Hi , I have a deposit with Sutton too and find them great to deal with. May I ask when you put your deposit down as I haven't been informed officially where I am in the queue

So anyone going to order in the "Walter Rohrl" perfect spec?
Everything selected/deselected to ensure the car is as light as possible - including AC delete - and with steel brakes.

Would light as possible not require PCCBs and no Clubsport Pk ??

My dealer in France has been very transparent. I had taken an interest in the GT4 since the first spy pictures were released but had been focussed on finding a 997.1 GT3 RS in a particular spec and as new condition and didn't enquire about the GT4 until 9 February, a week after it was announced. The dealer said they would be getting 3 cars and one was sold. I was busy and didn't pay the deposit for another couple of days. The dealer emailed that he had received it and I was on the shortlist. It was only after reading all the desperate stories on Rennlist and this forum a couple of weeks later that I realised I had better check my place in the queue. He told me I was 2nd out of 4 and they had asked for 4 cars but might only be getting 2. He emailed yesterday to say the factory is only giving them 2 so I was very lucky.

If you ask your dealer what place you are on the list they should tell you but they might not know how many cars they are getting yet.

I'm getting the same feeling, I'm number 8 on the list of LOI's but the lack of contact is making me feel like I'm not on the favoured list and they are keeping my money as long as they can! Not had a response to my emails since Thursday......

I wouldn't worry. There will be plenty of cars on the used market for 20k over list within no time

furious to be honest this whole experience has been a royal pain in the censored! Ok so they want to ensure their brand is protected and residuals stay high, but if you have a system that is open to abuse rather than 1st come 1st served and it isn't transparent I can't see how this won't impact negatively on their reputation. People will just move their money to other brands like Mclaren! I've been told previously that I should get a car as my OPC believe they are getting more than 8 cars but the lack of communication seems strange to me especially as other countries have been given their allocation!
