Its an epic time. The cynic in me says that while I doubt PDK would have dropped the lap by another 10 secs, the GT4 PDK time was better than the 3:37.90 991 C2S time and so it has been spun as a 'we love the manual enthusiast' PR exercise until the Gen2 991/992 rocks up and then allows the GT4 PDK to magically appear.I would imagine though that if the manual GT4 can post a 7:40 on the 'ring, its going to embarrass many more exotica on the smaller, shorter circuits like Hockenheim.

but i wouldn't buy one of the ordinary ones and i doubt many who miss out will either.
Is not that simple. I see it very clearly. They are building excitement, contoversy and pressure. Its genius.

I wish i could understand any of this that keeps getting repeated. Nothing of this supposed 'manufactured excitement' if thats what it is makes me want to buy a new Porsche or endears me to the brand. I see things quite simply, if a cars great and i can buy one then i will, if its great and i can't because of artificially manipulating numbers i will buy something else. It all sounds like hocus pocus, or maybe I'm just not the sort of customer that Porsche want. Not bothered either way, will stick with my old one.
Hey, i've got a 993, so I am 'sticking with my old one' too! But, I can still see what they are doing, and I struggle to understand why others can't.
At the premium end of the automotive market, its all about creating desire and status. Its about the badge, the specialness and the chase.
Look at the 100's of pages of bhing on here, WAAAAAAAAAA, I cant have one, Im special, I bought a new Porsche before, I am important, its not FAIR!
Emotion. Its very powerful.

Just came home from the press launch. After seeing it in the flesh I have to say it's not exactly as pretty as I hoped it would be.
Things I don't like:
The wing ruins the visual balance and makes the car look to flamboyant (people will argue that's the whole point... I know), the side air intakes look a bit cheap and tacked on, because they are round in the back with a sharp edge at the front, the center caps of the wheels are far too big and makes them look a bit fisher-price (probably because the design had center locks in mind?) and I think the launch colour isn't doing it any favours.
Going to my dealer this week to ask about a potential wing-delete and what it would cost.

The front PCCBs are so large you wouldn't believe it. There's barely any room with the 20" wheels. Thought about switching my spec to PCCB with replacement steel rotors but that would be too heavy.
I'm afraid the new Boxster Spyder will almost certainly be the prettier car of the two, curious what the specs will be. If it's the 3.8L with GT4 running gear I might be tempted to switch the order...
Anybody else there tomorrow?
Give it time and you'll get used to the wing. I never liked it on the GT3 until I got one and now I don't give it a second thought.Things I don't like:

I actually think the Spyder will be the car to get - if they get it right. A proper, pure sports car, rather than a wannabe track weapon.

Having never bought a new porsche before and ending up miles down the list, I'm fully expecting my £5k deposit back, but this thread has made some interesting reading
Emotions run high here, it seems

I see what you mean about the centre caps, they do look quite large in comparison.Things I don't like:

What was the official GT3 'ring time ?
I could only find 7:32:** on the net, which, if a PDK Gt4 was -10sec, then that's similar, which I'd not expect from the Porsche marketing rule makers, no ?

nope. i see, 'i feel special' i got a GT3/4 and WAAAA fk you porsche i'll buy a registered one or something else like a 458
For some people yes, but thats WAY better than apathy. For fk sake this thread has become tedious. If you are lucky enough to get a build slot keep posting details for those of us who are interested. If you aren't lucky enough then do what you need to do - buy a 997 gt3 or an exige or a 458 or boycott Porsche forever. However if you wish to tell the world about it please do it elsewhere.
