Going by the complaints on PH about farty 981 exhausts, I can see Carnewal coming up with a revised, quiet version for this car?
Front looks as low as any previous GT3, so for me would cause the same issues I had with one of those, not much use as a daily, especially for business use with unpredictable destinations?
Hate the rear wing (also previous RS's and 7.2/991 GT3), it would look so much less better with just the ducktail, but then is this a track car or a sporty road car? They should make it easily removable with cover plates for the strut holes - I think at least 50% of owners would leave it off, but then, as there will only be a handful of them, I suppose that is a moot point?
Apart from this GT price bubble and the "potential" cash-in, plus the modern tech of Bluetooth etc, on the surface, I would choose my old 7.1 GT3 over this (although a drive in one may alter that)?

a lot of odd comments.

Clearly they are positioning the car as a "3rd car"-weekend-track-toy rather than a usable allrounder, more so than the 911 GT3. I have to say that bothers me a bit but apparently it's what the market asked for.
That would tie in with the firm suspension also. The 991 GT3 was one of the more "soft" GT cars, seems Porsche have made a bigger difference between the lesser models and this one this time around. It will be interesting to see how the UK road tests comment.
It's just funny reading all this
When the R came out all you got was "it's not hard enough" "no new wing" etc etc
Now a GT4 come out and you get "to low" " don't like wing"
Lol they do make a GTS for people who don't want a GT car
And you can buy the R which is one of today's best road cars STILL :-)
They were never going to make a 3.8 GTS Cayman. Because you can buy a GTS 991
Seems they have all bases covered now.

not sure that yellow does the car justice. otherwise looking good I think, for a Cayman.
got the confirmation from my OPC now, so it's just a question of waiting for advice on build slots which should come later this month.
as far as the LOI/Deposit debate, I am sure that the fact I put my dealer in funds (with a small deposit) almost 12 months ago will have had a bearing on the DP deciding who gets a car. Porsche decide allocation to dealers (numbers) but not who gets each of those allocated cars (excluding VIP customers, should there be any). anyway, it's a pity they aren't build more, but that's just how it is. lets see what the first press reports say, no doubt it'll be the best thing since the next GT Pork, etc, etc. saying the past is better than the present doesn't really sell car magazines, except classic ones !

Just as a reminder, this is from official Porsche press documents:
They openly admit to making the GT4 less usable everyday, i.e. due to the lack of a front lift option, relatively brutal spring rates and more unsprung mass from heavier uprights, brakes and 20" wheels/tyres. The GT4 is a "tracktool", not a Cayman R replacement. If you want the latter, get a GTS... or rather a Cayman R.
I suspect we'll see quite a few punters chop in their GT4s for something else in the next year or two. I know two people who wanted a GTS and switched their order to comfort spec GT4s for "earlier delivery and more power", they are in for quite a surprise.
There's no doubt in my mind that prices for LHD cars will come down so I'll pick up a used one. Buckets, Clubsport, nothing else, thank you very much.

Sounds like it redlines at 2:00 minute mark, albeit in a crappy way. Still sounds good to me. PorscheGT4 said:

It's just so funny reading how you did nothing but criticise the 981 styling, saying it looked like an MR2 etc....and now you're buying one. I guess a big wing makes all the difference to you?....... Ell 'o' Ell....silly smiley etc....etc.....When the R came out all you got was "it's not hard enough" "no new wing" etc etc

I think EricE has hit the nail on the head with that chart. This is the Porsche equivalent of a track toy, but usable enough to get there, track it and back. A lot of wish listers think it is a GTS with a power output that it deserves and could handle? Time will tell of course and the OPC Used Approved lists in 12 months time - perhaps the spring rates won't be too bad on a British B road, roll on the mag tests, but I anticipate a "lively" ride?

Doesn't sound great at all...........
sounds more honest than the farty pops the GTS does.as for how it sounds in real life in the car, we are yet to find out, the vids are poor low rpm runs for some reason.
Maybe the new 981 Spyder is the car people want, put it this way I am NOT selling my R now, and will run them both for a bit and decide which one to keep after a month.
I did a bit of google research with regards to ground clearance, all without lifters activated:
Approach angles:
987 Cayman: 12.0°
987 Cayman PASM: 11.5°
987 Cayman R: 10.3°
991 911 Turbo: 10.3° (retractable front spoiler)
Lotus Evora 400: 10.0°
981 Cayman GTS 9.2°
997 911 Turbo: 7.8°
981 Cayman GT4: 6.0°
Carrera GT 5.7°
996 GT3 and 997 GT3 & GT3 RS 5.6°
values in italic are from unofficial sources (posted on forums), the others are directly from official porsche datasheets (and the lotus press release).
I have to admit I'm not as ecstatic with my GT4 order as I used to be but hopefully the handling will make up for everything.
It is a PTS order for next year so fortunately there is plenty of time to test drive and decide.
What bothers me the most is that the engine sounds underwhelming and even a bit "annoying" in some of the videos. Dare I say even a bit diesel-ish? Maybe they cut the video in such a manner as to not steal the limelight from the GT3/GT3 RS. As somebody mentioned there's definitely something odd going on with the shifting.
edit: I removed some data because I believe some people got ramp angles and approach angles mixed up.
