Base, S, GTS - I'd try both and pick the one I liked the most.
However, for the ultimate interpretation of the Cayman - I want the 'box the chassis was set up for.
I don't know which that is (if there is a choice) but if every other setting on the car is identical for both then only one will be The Best. I want that one.
This will probably open a whole other can of worms but I don't want the one that's the most fun - I want the ultimate Cayman and if that means PDK, I won't lose sleep choosing that.
And I'm a manual man at heart but Porsche said PDK was best for the GT3 so didn't even offer a manual. Some may miss it, but Porsche know better than I how to produce great cars!

Ive just been watching reviews of the Cayman GTS in both PDK and manual. Steve Sutcliffe seemed to really love the manual whilst Harris loved the PDK in the Cayman S and the manual in the Boxster S.
So if you had to spec a Cayman GTS what would you have Manual Or PDK?
Neither is great imoSo if you had to spec a Cayman GTS what would you have Manual Or PDK?
PDK was dull, manual does 82mph in 2nd gear
I had the most fun in the manual in sports plus mode with auto blip on the VIP GTS day.
I was going to choose pdks if it were a option but after a day with the cars it has to be manual.
Clicking a micro switch holds no interest to me after a while,

I need to know more about this DEmon. Manual with auto blip? I didn't know that existed.PDK was dull, manual does 82mph in 2nd gear

Sports mode you can heal and toe, sports plus on manual gives you a perfect auto blip.Thought it worked quite well, but to have a choice was good.
The issue for me is the ratios, if they are just standard 981 ratios then £85k gets you a 997.2 GT3 with poor ratios
And the ratios were the only thing stopping me buying a 997.2 Gt3
Hence why some people would take a PDK car which does 60mph in 2nd not 82mph.
But for me micro switch gear changing is so dull.
The R still is the perfect road road imo, the GT4 needs to be very good to win over R owners and GT3 owners.
Thanks for taking the time to explain.
Had a good look at a GTS this week and Really liked it have to say.
That Said in the spec id want it'll be 70k which makes the current R a cracking buy as you say.,
The real issue for me is weather I'd love a cayman as much as a GT3.
Maybe it's more a case of getting my head round the idea of not having a 911

That was exactly the situation with me. Circumstances lead to me having an R for a short period while still having the GT3 on the way and never again will I judge a Cayman as a poor relation .Unfortunately doesn't stop others having the view I once had though......

Those 'in the know' view the Cayman as different, rather than inferior.Unfortunately doesn't stop others having the view I once had though......
And those not 'in the know' won't understand or care about the difference between a Cayman 'S' or 'GTS' or 'R' or 'GT4' anyway!
from a renlist member posted over the weekend.
They called to say the car is confirmed and it will be called the Cayman GT4. Official launch is February 5th.
Specific details were sketchy but they alluded to some interesting points...
- will come as manual or PDK
- 380-400bhp
- naturally aspirated
- priced at 10% higher than GTS
- built in Weissach by Motorsport
- developed by Andreas Preuninger
- Clubsport spec an option
