With reference to the old tech, old interior comments etc. do you think a 996 or 997 GT3 would be more desirable without the ancient PCM 1 or 2 or even 3 as tech has moved on so much it's more of an embarrassment to have instead of a blank panel?
If I do actually get a GT4 I'm thinking of omitting the navigation as tech moves on so quickly the next generation will make the current systems look like a horse and cart compared with an F1 car.

The tech that comes with the car suits the car and is period. Have you ever seen a 964 with a big phone on a coiled lead? Funny as hell and totally awesome!

They don't call it the baby-GT car for nothing. http://youtu.be/JmjIJ3ni7Mc
Apologies if this has been posted already. 10 minute video on the testdriven channel. Car sounds great, bassy and gutterall.

Hi Ade, and how close is your 6RS to stock? Maybe valid if a GT4RS appears some day.isaldiri said:

The 997 GT3 is a special car in a way that the GT4 doesnt understand.
To be completely fair, that is very hard to say the above without anyone having driven the gt4...? I agree the gt3 is likely to prove be the far more special car but who knows for now...Thing is, I know what a 996/7 GT3 is, its a road going homologated race car. Its competed in 1000's of races, including Le Mans. For 24 hours. Reliably and quickly. Its engine is truly legendary, up there with the Cosworth DFV and Rolls Royce L series.
The GT4 is a Cayman with a detuned Carrera S engine and a big spoiler.

Not bad for a detuned 911 engine

Beat me to it (with the video and the comment)!! Different drivers but WR still shifting manually and with a passenger in tow. I'll Happily take that detuned engine thanks!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BSDFYQskofc&feat...

OK Walter in a GT4 is 1 second quicker around a circuit than Chris Harris in a 991 GT3 but that probably has more to do with the driver than the car.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BSDFYQskofc&feat...

I disagree with nothing above but..... racing success is not necessarily equivalent with being a great car to drive even if the link between the racing car and road car was far closer than most other platforms. Would a road converted R8LMS or SLS GT3 necessarily be a great road car in the way the older gt3s are? The 6/7 gt3 would be special cars even if they had no successful racing history. There are other great cars with no equivalent racing history either. The GT4 is a Cayman with a detuned Carrera S engine and a big spoiler.
Received confirmation yesterday from my OPC yesterday that they have been allocated a further 3 cars (6 in total) and that I will now be getting a car . No idea if this is the 2nd batch of cars, or that they have simply increased the allocations....either way, pretty excited to be getting a car!

Great news and congrats. Hopefully this means other OPC's will follow suit. Porsche Club America posted this brief review on their facebook site. They have more info and photos also. Sounds like the main issue is the tall gearing, which is what everyone was concerned about:
"End of a long but great day with the GT4—and the big takeaway is that this car is a bullseye. Fantastic on track, great in the canyons, and surprisingly refined on the road. It is fast, its steering is at least as good as the 991 GT3's, the shifter may be Porsche's best to date, it makes great noises, it is remarkably stable yet agile on track (even on Pilot Sport Cup 2s that had seen their best laps before our wave arrived), and is very much a 1:1 car—it feels mechanical and pure, something many enthusiasts have been asking for of late.
So there's a lot to love about the GT4, and very little to dislike—it has met or exceeded expectations, and these are very high given its name and who developed it. I could see wanting to shorten gears 2, 3, 4, 5 and then install a taller 6th for sub-3000-rpm freeway cruising, but I'd want to spend time with the car and someone who knows gears very well before playing with the ratios. But hard pulls to redline in third were telling: You're moving, but the tach needle just doesn't sprint from 5000 or 6000 rpm to redline in the way some Porsches do (yes, we've been spoiled by several incredible cars, every GT3 so far among them). After that, criticisms are few, and largely come down to preferences.
Thanks for all the great questions, and hope we've answer most of them. Will check back through when I've got faster Internet. Photos below are the last quick uploads from here in Portugal, with a few for the trackday and tire nerds—from a trackday and tire nerd. I'll add some nerdy comments to go with the latter."

I totally agree with that of course. A racing car and a road car are very different propositions. The GT4 will be a great road car, and for most that will be all that matters.

Seems that those that have driven the GT4 thinks it's fantastic on road and track (PCA). What's more important, as others have pointed out, is not the track times but the drive feel. Again, from the PCA it sounds like it is (almost) spot on.The GT4 will be a great road car, and for most that will be all that matters.
