'No RS planned or in the works at this time. Power is somewhat limited by the Cayman's exhaust arrangement, which has to go up and over the rear axles.''
Looking at the exhaust I can't see a problem with the pipe over the rear axle. The headers and connection of the outlets look far more constrained:
Thanks to Sandy59 this is a link to the image I failed to copy from the GT4 brochure (can someone tell me how to display the image rather than just the link?):

looks good

he talks about the 2 things which annoy me the most

steering feel and long ratio's

How annoying are those 2 things !! , ex GT3 drivers should be more than happy with that though ;-p

Nice after market trade soon in a shorter axle ratio

Agreed. It'd a bit muted. I struggle with his conclusion at the end as regards the 991GT3 and the manual geearchange obsession bit. He's always going on about how he wishes the 991GT3 had a manual and how the PDK makes you a passenger, etc. He now seems to be more focused on the attraction of the outright speed and aggression (of the PDK-S?) of the 991 GT3 rather than the manual nature of the GT4 and sacrificing some of that speed to get more connected with the car. Maybe the video will shed more light on this.

I've not driven either car but I'm not sure the GT3 vs GT4 comparison is a valid one and surprised he brought that up in his review TBH. Did anybody think it was going to be a replacement?

it would appear if anyone wants a car they can get one-no limited runs.

The Harris review said it was a good car and gelled well as a whole, though it did mention the areas where people on here assumed it might have issues - the ride, steering, engine and gearing. Actually that sounds worse than it is. smile

I think the GT3 got such rave reviews with nothing wrong at all or perhaps the GT badge made everyone want it to be perfect also?

They should have reduced the gearing though if nothing else, that is not a big change.

I'll give you the passenger bit (must have picked that up from somewhere else). The piece about the manual gear change is semantics. He "misses" the manual gearbox, which I translate to mean he would prefer it to have a manual, and then goes on to say that GT cars should be the "last bastion of the manual gear change". The GT4 has delivered on this, maybe at the expense of the speed, aggression, etc of the GT3, but it has still delivered.

For me personally, I will be happy with the GT4 as I'm unlikely to be able to use anywhere near its potential either on track or on the road so I don't need the "extra" that comes with the GT3 (altought and higher revving engine would be nice!)

So why have lots of people been told they aren't getting cars?

Re the Harris review, glad to know the ride is not abysmal. Not sure about the steering comments ,he rates the gt3 steering as the best electric system, but the gt4 has the same system but supposedly improved for more feel.
Look forward to his video later.

I was always told from Day 1 that availability wouldn't be a problem. RHD may be a different story...

The Chris Harris review was a good read, no surprises but also not quite as glowing as I hoped when the car was leaked for the first time. The engine characteristics bother me the most but a little hesitation towards the redline is preferable to the "flat spot" of the normal 3.4 engines.

This sums it up for me:
Chris Harris said:
It somehow needs to be the car we’ve always wanted the Cayman to be, but it simply must not tread on the GT3’s toes.

Given the disparate nature of those requirements I think Porsche has done a superb job
A lift kit and a shorter final drive ratio will make this car nearly perfect for me.

Call me a cynic but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they put the standard 3.8 in the GT4 just so they can one-up it with an RS version later.
All they have to do now is shrink the 3.8L GT3 engine to 3.4L or 3.6L and a GT4 RS will be a big hit... although it's essentially the same car.

yes 10% will be just fine, and still enjoy high autobahn speeds.

Top Gear Magazine - First Drive:

''Out with it, is the Cayman GT4 fit to stand shoulder to shoulder with the 911 GT3?

Absolutely. It's a humdinger of a car, mighty on track, addictive on the road and capable of making your fizzy bits fizz like you've dropped an Alfa Seltzer into your pants. It's... proper.

What, better than a GT3?

Wrong question. Different, but a genuine Porsche GT product right down to the sole of its Michelins. By which I mean it's got a definite track focus - this is not a benignly upgraded Cayman with soothing road manners. The ride is decidedly firm, road noise a bit more intrusive, compromises have been made. But this is reassuring, it shows Porsche has approached the Cayman with the right mindset.

Oh, and let's clear something else up right now - the reason we haven't had this car before is not because of internal wranglings about overlap with the 911, it's because the GT division hasn't had the manpower and resources to be able to do it.''

Very happy with reviews so far and given it is half the price of a GT3 pretty remarkable really
