Thanks for sharing, enjoyed that.See the aero package is adjustable although adjustment for more downforce not legal for road use in some countries as high level rear brake light would be obscured and wing would also fall foul of pedestrian Impact regulation. Wonder how it was set up for the quoted ring lap time. If wing adjusted then a pair of flaps under front splitter need to be removed to keep the car in balance.
Anyone planning to use more downforce?

Very informative, thanks.Reading the article, perhaps the GT4 will develop 400 ps at speed:
'So why 385hp at 7,400rpm and 420Nm between 4,750 and 6,000rpm, when the same motor in the Carrera S makes 400hp at 7,400rpm, and 440Nm at 5,600rpm? “It is a matter of packaging, and the Cayman’s mid-engine layout simply does not allow it the engine bay height of the 911,” Andreas explained. ... We ... had to design a completely new intake manifold and exhaust system. With its shorter runners the Cayman intake manifold does not have as much ram effect at high speed, although on the positive side, it produces better mid-range torque. The extended side blades around the side intakes also create more ram air effect when the car is moving.” '
If an RS version is built it sounds unlikely that it will get the Powerkit or a GT motor:
'I asked why Porsche did not see fit to use the 430hp Powerkit version of the motor as fitted to the Carrera GTS. “That would have been our ideal scenario,” said Andreas, “However, the bespoke intake manifold on that variant is even larger than the standard one, so there simply was no way it would fit the Cayman.” ... “One thing we did not want to do was create a bespoke engine for what we knew was going to be around 2,000 units,” ... As you can imagine, the first question people ask is “why not use the GT3 motor.” The answer is simple; it will not fit and even if it did it would make the car too expensive to fulfil its role as the entry-level GT model. “We wanted to create an entry-level GT car with the full motorsport DNA, but the cost had to be kept down to around the level of a basic 991 Carrera.” '
Still, it sounds like with the lighter body and flywheel than the Carrera S the GT4 does pretty well with what it's got and the ram air effect might sharpen up the top of the power curve in real life and account for the twinkle in Andreas's eye when talking about the power to Evo.
The article says the steering is spot on but doesn't mention feel. It would be nice to know how close it gets to a 997 GT3's hydraulic.

No, don't want more drag.Anyone planning to use more downforce?
Anyone got suggestions/links for parking sensors on the GT4. I have had confirmation I will get the first car in at OPC but no date or build slot yet.
Good 0-240km dash here on utube between a GT4 and the new 991 C4 GTS

Interesting. Porsche quotes 0-100km/h for the 991 C4 (and C2) GTS as 4.4s for the manual (same as the GT4) and 4.0s for the PDK. In the video, by the time the GT4 is doing 30km/h the GTS is doing 40km/h (thanks to launch control and 4WD) but from there on the GT4 gradually catches up to arrive at 240km/h at the same time and same revs (so PDK ratios must be the same with 7th on top). Must be the extra weight of the 4WD dropping anchor once RWD has full traction.http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=c...

that is quite impressive , the gt4 is accelerating harder through the gears.Once the traction/launch advantage of the 991 has been removed and despite the much faster gearshifts of the pdk it's as quick,so it will feel punchier than the 991.Good 0-240km dash here on utube between a GT4 and the new 991 C4 GTS

Apologies if these have been posted - I don't remember them (except for the Autocar video).

Perhaps even more interesting and a good 114 photo gallery for those still deciding on colour: http://www.caranddriver.com/porsche/cayman-gt4
"It’s tempting to see the GT4 as a little brother, yet in many ways it’s not. Its official Nürburgring Nordschleife time is 7:40, a respectful 15 seconds behind the 991 GT3’s. However, Porsche told us at that car’s launch that the 911 GT3’s active rear steering and PDK gearbox (neither of which is present here) together shaved more than 15 seconds off of its ’Ring time, meaning the GT4 is closer than you’d think."

I read in one article that it gains about 10% power when on the move due to the ram air effect. I have a similar effect on my 997 with a strotsek spoiler that works pretty well. This would put the power rating around 420 when really motoring.
Eh? A spoiler gives a 10% increase in power? Is that what you are saying? No, in an early article I read, or saw a video where Preuninger said the car doesn't do well on the dyno and power is up on the move due to the ram air effect. Pretty sure 10% extra power was mentioned but can't find the article just now.
I have a 997 with a hollow rear spoiler that acts as a ram air system, it certainly " seems" to help the car breathe at speed. Given that there are a few references to challenges with airflow it all makes sense.

You are right ,the first article that was linked up here on the gt4 stated the 10% power increase due to the ram air effect, but not sure it said preuninger said that, and not seen any other articles mention it.I have a 997 with a hollow rear spoiler that acts as a ram air system, it certainly " seems" to help the car breathe at speed.
