I find the differences in responses between the French OPC's and the UK ones very interesting!

The French seem to have everything nailed down and quick and easy confirmations. How come the UK appear so far behind the curve? What's been going on behind the scenes?

Even though UK sales are high, the UK market is not favoured.

Seems the Germans put us down the list.

Indeed, my RS is coming via a French dealer.

Have a Sapphire Blue with buckets due in May( Porsche Antibes). Paid my deposit at earliest possible date. Was worried when read posts on here re colour and seats. E mailed Antibes. They just confirmed car ordered as per my spec ( this was about two weeks ago) presumably would have heard by now if colour not available and delay for seats. From your experience do you think the car will be available in May?
I did put my deposit early Feb as soon as I understood the car was a go (CP Paris 16); the guy did very quickly confirm a may delivery, then when I checked last week told me my car was scheduled to roll off the line week of April 20... so far they sound quite reliable so I guess you can trust the May schedule.
Thanks fingers crossed

so the french get no delay with bucket seats, nor any issue with sapphire blue ? seems odd to say the least, does the sapphire blue have an allergic reaction to rhd cars ?

any plausible explanation ? Because I cannot think of any.

Seems like we are getting bumped right down the pecking order. Is the head of Porsche GB sleeping with Matthias Müller's daughter? hmmmm

I guess a reasonable answer may be that all RHD cars will be run down the line after LHD cars.

They only have a certain stock of parts, so all RHD cars will have to wait on buckets.

Even if they have 'a couple' of sets left over, perhaps they don't want people fighting over them, like they did for build slots?

Perhaps they just miscalculated demand for some things. They're used to most GT cars being ordered with comfort seats wink

Paint seems stranger as you'd expect them to be able to 'mix' another new batch, if they've worked out that they'll run out of it? Maybe that takes time as it wasn't planned/ expected?

Seems logical.

Maybe they have their paint lines set up for the numbers of volume models ordered in each colour and if a new small volume model is ordered with very different ratios of colours it's not worth their while to alter or add to the lines.

It is not just applicable to RHD. US and Canada are in the same boat. Perhaps other regions.

Dom9's explanation but Europe followed by rest of world rather than LHD followed by RHD. US and Australia both think they know more about car design than Europe and have their own stupid regulations so need separate batches regardless of side of the road.

With the 981.2 round the corner is it possible that some of the incoming GT4's will get some of the facelift features of the revised Cayman 981.2?

My car is due to be built around December and there has been talk of the gen 2 cars coming late summer. Would Porsche build new gen 2 Caymans with the new facelift features but not the GT4? What normally happens when you've placed an order for a gen 1 but porsche start building gen 2 cars before your build date etc?

Some of the facelift features will probably include are a much improved PCM Nav.

The new 911 will be introduced at the Frankfurt Auto show this September, with the car available first in Europe next spring. The Cayman has historically been introduced about a year later. Things could change, but that has been the pattern.

Do they make their own seats or buy them in from somewhere?

Extremely unlikely. It is common amongst manufacturers for late lifecycle special models to continue for a few months after a new one is introduced but I can't think of any old-new model hybrids and I'm sure Porsche won't have developed a facelifted GT4 yet. They'll want to give the facelifted boggo Cayman maximum exposure before creating a new frenzy with a GT variant.

The GT cars are always behind the curve when it comes to aesthetics/face lifts etc. Must be due to waiting for the vanilla model sign off, before the Motorsport boys are allowed to get their mitts on the cars?

Same story here in Germany with the seats. My car was to be delivered at April 18th, however, the delivery has been delayed until May because of the buckets.

Well just been into Reading to spec mine, can still change but happy with what I've told them - racing Yellow, buckets, CS pack and a few toys, keeping standard brakes

Early Oct build with, hopefully an October delivery too

Really looking forward to this car, be great to compare it with the Spyder.. now the countdown begins....

that spec is subject to 8 week delay from OCT and maybe longer due to the CS pack , cannot see you getting that car in 2015.
