Arrrgh!

Just had a call from dealer and my spec needs to be amended apparently.

I was November build - may be pulled forward but have been told I cant have LWB and CTS combined (my spec includes both and Club Sport).

I can have either or but cant have both as to have both would delay my build until end of Feb (the production run ends then).

What would you do? Never had a supplier turn down money before!

This is the point I do not understand. To manufacture a gearbox with totally different ratios would be uneconomic for Porsche on a small volume vehicle, but surely a shorter final drive would not break the bank. Or am I missing something ?

ODD as we have just about the same spec and colour, mine was put back from Sept to OCT, and I was told NO CTS at OPC level but at factory level it was OK.
my spec was in 2nd May so a very early spec on the system and still have never been told I cannot have any thing, although changing spec at OPC level Would be an issue on my Buckets we phone the Factory to add my CTS to my locked in spec.

I hope I don't get a call, but would just go yellow and keep my 918 style buckets.

Did your OPC change you spec to add yellow stitching ? any OPC changes kills any spec which was locked in, if the OPC changed your spec you may have lost what you had !

Keep the club sport and buckets. That combo will make it rare.

I think it's a simple, same old case of Porsche trying to keep a safety cushion to the 991 GT3/GT3 RS. The longer ratio allows them to market a 385 PS (or really 400 PS) GT4 without stepping on the toes of it's bigger brothers. I suspect a GT4 with shorter ratios would be... well, lets just say I think it would be faster around tracks than the GT4 already is.

I've considered it but I would definitely lose warranty on the entire drivetrain (shorter gearing = more torque on drivetrain = more stress), if not the whole (new) car, and realistically one should regear the affected gears rather than shortening the final drive ratio. I'd rather pick up a cheap Cayman R and mod it to my liking at that point.

Waiting for salesman to come back from lunch as was on a conference call when he phoned so only got the voicemail to go on

My spec was locked in on the 13th May initially but yes I have added to it twice since then.

Once in earlier June to add CTS and then later in June to add yellow stitching.

Will be annoyed if its just a process thing yours was an earlier build than mine though as I was always told Nov so perhaps yours is just ducking in under the cut offs and mine missing it.

If I didn't want it so much would tell them to fk off messing people around and go and get myself a V10 R8 Spyder for summer.

I was going to buy a R8 Spyder for the summer, nice car.

If your OPC added the changes to your car on his system you will have lost your spec !

If they rang some one higher up to do the changes you should have kept your spec, it looks like the 1st thing happened !

I've gone for the Audio System Plus (P25) which says it receives DAB. Am I right in believing I will actually get a DAB radio function? I can't additionally add DAB without having to cancel P25 and add PCM and sound system plus.

Guys, a quick question, my salesman is very keen that I spec the sports chrono lap app thing.
Personally I reckon it's pretty pointless- how many of you are going for it?
To be fair he hasn't pushed me to add unnecessary spec, eg nav, which I might prefer at a grand more than sports chrono? I'm not sure why he thinks its crucial.

I am going for the sports chrono as well as PCM (NAV). I think these options will make the car more desirable when I decide to sell it in the future.

Yes that's what's happened it seems, call to the factory appears to have sorted and my order now has P11's (LWBs) locked in, along with CTS and CS on the system

While I was on they added mobile phone prep for me as been umming and ahhhing about that so added that for the sake of deciding I want to later and having hassle. No more changes now though other wise will have issues.

I am fairly certain that sports chrono will make no positive difference come resale.

Exactly, and why waste a grand on something you don't want

That's what I thought, there's more useful options I could spec for 1k. I'm just try to see if buyers think it's desirable.

Sports Chrono used to make sense on older and PDK cars where it actually affected the car (shift times, throttle linearity or rather lack thereof).

Now it's just the laptimer app that will age terribly because it's already low resolution now and the mobile app (if there is one?) probably won't be updated ever again.
Pass on it and use Harry's lap timer, a bluetooth GPS and OBD dongle if you really care.

I've just come here to post that link, I like his reviews.

He was not impressed with the gear ratios though, I found it interesting he would prefer a 991 GTS over the GT4.
I don't like him just doesn't sound German enough!

you buy sports chorine because you want the clock.... that's it

if you want the app, harry's is better

both will need an external gps sensor to perform their best and both need to do video through the iPhone. HLT does the same thing for £25 and can be used on other cars.
the 1 thing HLT doesn't have is the OBD2 data which you will have to buy a wifi dongle for £150 to access, if you want fancy overlays.

so you tell me.... how much is the clock worth to you?

I expect there will be after market options available soon - is it just changing the internal gearing, or more?

I thought you could do video via wifi with GoPro Hero 4? So you use that for the video, Dual XGPS160 for external GPS via Bluetooth and iPhone 4S / 5 / 6 for the data logging.
