Any idea how they've achieved it with the 991 RS?

Been to the PEC for my GT4 experience today, what a machine.

The car was a yellow pre-production model which was ran at Goodwood and is on German plates. It has the LWB, PCCB and clubsport pack but no aircon so got a little warm in there.

To drive, first thing i noticed was front end grip, the turn in is so precise and plenty of feedback from the wheel. The car has plenty of grunt and easily copes with the gearbox, the torque allows you to short shift if required and just picks up and goes. The balance is exceptional and with it so neutral the car is so predictable and easy to balance on the throttle. The whole package is well sorted, the noise, balance is bang on and was the first time the driving consultant had driven it and he was very impressed with it he had a great play in it too. The gear shift is short, mechanical and precise.

I spent a load of time on the low friction surface balancing the car on the throttle prevoking oversteer and lift off overstear.

Had some good time on the handling circuit but was quite busy which was a bit of a pain but the grip levels are great to explore.

As Chris Harris said in his video, you really want one of these so hope you all have a great time when you go, mine is in production as we speak and want it even more now.

Any questions let me know.

Do mine this month also, PEC track is annoying as most people are super slow and over taking is not easy ie the instructor says "nope"

What car do you own atm ?

steering feel is key for me on this car, did you have PASM on, and did you use auto blip ?

I do like the idea of 245 tyres up front, wish I did that on mine now.

Hi

Was the clutch heavy as is so often reported

Are LWB that much different to the GT3 style buckets and if so in a positive or negative fashion

Thanks

Great to hear! biggrin

What was the brake feel / power like with the PCCBs? Did you experience any fade or low speed squeaking?

I assume you are talking about your track day and had the dampers on hard. I haven't had the pleasure of a track day in the GT4 yet but on the road noticed that changing from normal to hard introduced some old 911 bob and liveliness, which is a nice choice to have. Just need the steering tweaked somehow for that hydraulic GT3 feel.

I drove it with PASM on and off and to be truthful there is only a slight difference between the 2 settings, switched off will be the norm for road use and on for track but there is great feel from both. Driving the car you do feel very connected to the road, as for the auto blip i'm not too sure as I do like to heel and toe but doing that I felt the break pedal was too high to roll over to the accelerator, i'm not having PCCB so hopefully that is just a trait to that break system. The auto blip is a bit of a cheat but does work extremely well. The car feels very different from a normal Cayman, it is very much a GT car and having previously owned GT cars before they all have that feel about them but I do feel this was more responsive due to it being mid engined, it is easier to balance the car on the throttle and just put it into a bit of oversteer if required. One thing I was told when you have sport setting on the torque map is changed but the car is just a riot!

Don't think you will have to worry about the steering, i'm very picky on this sort of stuff but I found plenty of feel through the wheel and after driving the car it is not an issue.

When you go to the PEC spend a good amount of time on the low friction area to learn the balance of the car, it is massive fun and i think you then gain on the handling circuit as you have more understanding of the car.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got to wait until the end of October for my PEC day but it's great to hear such positive things already smile

Owner's manual says DIN weight is 1340 - 1410 kg depending on equipment. That implies that 1340 is with aircon and radio deleted, LWBs, PCCB, and no weight-adding options. Very sneaky. Glad I kept my option list minimal and included LWBs. Maybe I should have deleted the radio (no way I'd delete Aircon in France) but it's hard to give away something free.

I've been twice now and I haven't experienced that either time. Yes, some people are steady (which is fair enough in a potentially unfamiliar car and unfamiliar track) but both instructors have let me use my own judgement in overtaking. No different to how I'd approach a track day really - i.e. make sure you've been seen, but be decisive when you've made the decision to pass. To be fair, it's a fairly narrow track and I was consciously avoiding been seen to bully my way past when overtaking cars. If bullying is indeed possible in a Cayman 2.7!

I've been a few times and find the car in fronts instructor makes the car stick to his lines and will not let you past, as it's by consent, YOU CANNOT use your own judgement ! In normal cars the tyres go off in 3 laps as they don't lower the PSI, so a trip to the water part to cool them downs seems order of the day.

GT4 should have cup 2's on so that's not an issue though. I would rather take the GT4 out on the road than do PEC, bar the low friction bit.
the rest is easy once you have done the kick plate and water slide , it's doable at max speed and a non event.

key was to go off line pick up loads of st on your tyres then do the low friction with tyres covered in crap, then that was better.

Agree, i have done it twice, last time when i purchased my last new GT3 and i remember spending so much time overtaking slower traffic that it got quite embarrassing. Also the kickplate is certainly not 'doable' at max speed in a GT3, nor was it especially easy in a Cayman over 35mph, but maybe i'm not as highly skilled as some !

Yeah, I've done it a couple of times too - both times overtaking the slow(er) drivers... but they will ONLY let you overtake if they are confident you are capable.

How does the car in front know you are confident lol he has to wave you past.
my instructor was as frustrated as me, hence we went off to cool tyres and play drifting.

Should be easier now with the new bit and straight though.

I think he means the instructor makes an assessment about how capable you are of making sensible overtaking judgements without having to be told when to overtake.

Anyway, all a bit O/T. The RHD but German registered GT4 they have at Silverstone looks absolutely epic in the metal.

Your instructor you plank hehe

Seriously - he told me they won't let people overtake if they "can't drive for toffee". You can't blame em!
