Even with PSM off the Torque Vectoring and braking assistance for the diff will still be active. Both of those will be eating brake pads. Turning off the PSM may help a little but it's not going to help the car using the brakes while you're trying to accelerate and corner.
Sounds like you've identified a critical flaw. You'd better let the guys at Weissach know.
Strange response.

keep your 996 GT3 then !
Who said I wasn't? Did I say I wasn't? Can't remember saying I was selling it. Must be someone else you're thinking of.

And just to be clear, I'm not selling the GTS either, thanks.

because the rear brakes will activate on track and it is a track car :-) , plus you have a GT3 where the rear wheel don't lock.
And you keep saying you need 4 seats because of the kids !! hence the GTS you also have.

So the GT3 a better track car, GTS only road car you can use has it has 4 seats, so when to use the GT4 ?

GT4 gets you a straight swap into a 991 GTS also, so you could sell the 997 GTS !

I could go on, but there are many reason to sell a GT4 esp funding another car which might loose money you have never thought about buying due to that reason.

GT4 ownership give owners many many tempting options.

Or I could just enjoy owning a car that is different enough from my other cars (and I do have other cars besides the Porsches, by the way) to make it an interesting alternative as either an occassional track car (like my GTS is) or occassional road car when I do road trips (like my GT3 is).

I'm not purchasing a GT4 to leverage it against another purchase, or to make a few quid. It's getting bought to be driven and enjoyed, thanks.

Lock rear brakes? Why would it lock rear brakes? ODD!

You've gone on and on about the GT4, spec, colours (ad infinitum on merits of CTS), driving, etc etc and all you want to do is use it to buy something else.

I'm getting one, but I really hope that the market corrects, and there is zilch appreciation.

I'm sure this will be of little interest to you folk, but FWIW I ran my GT4 at the excellent Gold Track day at Brands Hatch GP circuit today. The first thing to report is that the Mike Edwards Motorsport external silencer system brought the noise test result down from 98dB to 91dB static at 5750 rpm, so a big success, the car should be welcome at all UK circuits now . I have little expertise at Brands GP so I asked Calum Lockie ( current Britcar Champion ) to drive the car for a few laps with me as a passenger, the experience was truly inspiring, I told Calum that the car was fully run-in and now on fresh oil, so "drive the wheels off it " and that he did, in an eight lap session we were passed only by a racing Ferrari 458, I was astounded by Calum and the GT4's braking performance, and the extraordinary balance of the car in a masters hands. We experienced my first and probably only four wheel drift down Paddock Hill Bend, which was really impressive, both to me as a passenger and to Calum as an experienced racer. Calum absolutely loved the car, thought the balance and poise were just about perfect, loved the GT3-like engine howl. The only suggestions he had were to add more camber to the front wheels, which would help minimise the "wait " for the car to settle on corner exit before getting back on the throttle. After Calum's excellent demonstration I got back behind the wheel and was able to greatly improve my performance emulating Calum's technique and remembering his instruction. All in all I enjoyed a great day with a fabulous car, that I feel will allow me to develop my driving further into old age ! Those of you that aren't purchasing a GT4 to use on track will never know what you are missing ? As a very regular track driver, the biggest thing I crave ( other than more power ) would be Porsche's fabulous PDK...sorry !

I wonder if Porsche are playing with different gearboxes for the future. Sort of a manual/pdk hybrid? It must be possible.

I think the GT4 is proof that they understand that manual is not dead, far from it.

There must be some interesting discussions being had.

There was a clip posted some time back (sorry no link) of a black GT4 testing which judging from the gearbox sound and change speed definitely had a PDK 'type' box........

Surely a road friendly seq could be made? Or something similar?

There are many possibilities.

You know that I agree.

However, I wonder whether theres something 'better' that doesn't yet exist?

I should probably clarify my post a little, before the GT4 I enjoyed a 981S PDK as my frequently used track car, I'm now in my sixties and found the whole exercise of becoming a competent left foot braker both demanding and very rewarding. It left me with no doubt to the techniques superiority on track allied to the marvellous PDK gearbox. As my skill with left foot braking developed I was able to use the technique to help rotate the car more speedily and of course to be able to make full power upshifts whilst the car is hanging on to the last vestiges of grip on corner exits is a real delight. Whatever was lost in making quality gear changes in a manual was for me more than compensated by the new possibilities opened up with left foot braking, this also applied in road driving situations, as I'm also a very keen Road Craft driver, and still taking regular lessons in the technique even at this ripe old age !

is that one that you bolt onto the twin pipe exhaust finisher at the track ? 98db is great, but quieter is reassuring to get on at quiet days at Goodwood for instance.
