Interesting article here re: porsche trackers - http://www.mtrackonline.co.uk/Resources/Automatric...
^^ That's cat 7 so useless for insurance purposes.
Yes Porsche system is ex Cobra now Vodafone - over priced for what it is but probably not worth the hassle for £400 - £500 quid saving if you cant be bothered to argue if it came to it!
Would love to hear from someone who has none Porsche and had issues .... or not!

Has anyone found insurance that doesn't need the tracker?
Also, anyone had verbal finance quotes yet?
Admiral didn't require one but then I don't know how good their policies are? Also, anyone had verbal finance quotes yet?
I've had a fair few finance quotes and in the end Porsche came up best... surprisingly! So I've gone with them

Adrian Flux were happy to provide me with a policy using that tracker.... Yes Porsche system is ex Cobra now Vodafone - over priced for what it is but probably not worth the hassle for £400 - £500 quid saving if you cant be bothered to argue if it came to it!

My OPC said they thought that cars up to £70k value didn't need a tracker if the 'official' Porsche insurance scheme was used. My car is just under this but don't know if this is the case. I've had no experience of this scheme. Also, anyone had verbal finance quotes yet?

Me too (well with a cat 7 tracker but not that one) a whole £1100 higher than my best quote with a cat 5 tracker.Going to shop around again nearer time but sub £800 with the right tracker and track days appears to be achievable for me.
35, TA4 postcode, 9 years NCD, no claims in last 5 years and £11k worth of options
Would be interesting to see who has quotes, who from and with what options and tracker to compare. I'll refrain from another thread on it

Are you going with Porsche VTS? I'll call AF tomorrow and hopefully my quote will come down more if I say CAT5 - they didn't ask me to quote options btw, said I didn't need to? Just the total value of the vehicle. Going to shop around again nearer time but sub £800 with the right tracker and track days appears to be achievable for me.

Best quote so far is with admiral (no tracker) £1400ish - I'm 27, 7 years NCD, no claims in last 5 years, SP50 and 3 points in 2011 and SK9 postcode
I can see this whole insurance and tracker situation be the hardest part of the process when buying this car
If you're buying a tracker, the value is based on the base price of the car, not with options otherwise I suspect they'd be giving them away with just about every car.
Having had to deal with Cobra under the new regime on an existing car, any approach that avoids getting a Porsche tracker and dealing with Vodafone is highly recommended.

I spoke with Porsche insurance who say that as long as the car is a maximum of £75000 they do not require a tracker. I had my 991 C4S with them and they were also the cheapest.
Trouble is though whilst the invoice cost will doubtless be up to £75k the cars value will far exceed this figure atm c £115k as the recent albeit small number of flipping cars prove...........av185 said:

you're right I hadn't thought of that. Are they really commanding that sort of money?Ref tracker, I ended up paying for a Porsche VTS one on my BGTS but only because I was not paying anywhere near full whack for it (separate unrelated issue). OPC told me that fitting an aftermarket one would invalidate part of my warranty. That said, if you had one professionally fitted and they tried to refuse a warranty claim, one would imagine the law would be on your side given that almost no insurer would insure you without one so they're effectively blackmailing you into spending an extra £1K+ with them
