I was under the impression the GTS has 340bhp and the 991 Carrera 345. Please feel free to elucidate as to where I have made a mistake.
not that it matters, just a facts thing but the 911 has 350BHp1kW is equal to 1.36PS (being DIN or metric HP) which is equal to 1.34HP
Thus 257kW is 349.52PS or 344.38HP
I'm not responsible for the accuracy of Porsches marketing blurb with regards to their misuse of units, but since they list kW and this is an SI unit, its quite clear what the rated power output is.

I am quoting Porsche UK web site, one is listed as 340HP the other is 350HP
if you cannot get the info from Porsche UK where can you get it ? If Porsche is wrong, what hope does any one have.
Porsche website is not wrong - they are qutoing 350HP, which is the same as 350PS, however 350HP is actually 345BHP, which is what Lightning Man said. i.e. he quoted BHP not HP for 991 Carrera, which is correct.if you cannot get the info from Porsche UK where can you get it ? PS = Pferdestärke (horse strength in German)
HP = PS
PS = 0.986BHP
Watch out, BHP is something else altogether.HP = PS
PS = 0.986BHP
SAE HP is an international format that expresses work based on imperial units, PS is a DIN format that expresses work based on metric units. This is why the two are close but not the same when converted from an original kW value. Watts are of course the prime unit in which to express work being an internationally and clearly defined S.I. unit.
If one was to use HP to (incorrectly) reference PS then it would need to have the term (DIN) included to prevent confusion.

Nope because you actually quoted his 991 figure as incorrect so sadly (for you), you were wrong - his 991 figure was spot on
I was misled thinking I might be wrong, when in fact my quote of "I would redo your maths :-) " was correct all along. lolthinking others might be right was my mistake. as this line was VERY convincing "Please feel free to elucidate as to where I have made a mistake."
well I consider lightingman now corrected and we have all learnt some thing :-)
I have learnt if people use posh words I don't understand (being a dumb ass) like "elucidate" then that does not mean they are right :-p
