Well I have covered 300 miles in mine so far and thoroughly enjoying it, I haven't been passed 5k rpm yet but will now start to build it up but the car does seem to egg you on to give it the beans. It will have an oil change at 1k miles and then it I will open the taps.
I have set the rear ARB to stiff and currently left the front ARB set medium and see where I go from there but the car does seem to promise a good turn in but won't know until hit gets on the track.

LONG GEARING again and car would be faster with shorter gearing.

Drove the GT4 for the first time yesterday, two and a half hours at the PEC, but 30mins of which on the local roads. I have to say I really struggle to comprehend what all the fuss is about the gearing. I don't think it gets in the way of enjoying the car especially, certainly not on the circuit and on the road it seemed to have ample torque to allow you to make use of the gearbox, even if you weren't running it out to the redline. It also makes it a good car for the long dull drive to the track down the m-way. Also whilst drifting the car on the low grip surfaces and leaning on the cars grip limits on the new small handling circuit I found the steering was quite chatty about how much grip the front end had. The black PEC car was on the standard ARB settings and you could easily drive round the cars natural tendency to understeer, and get the tail to be mobile. the PCCB's were also very strong, with good feel and resistance to fade.
Have to say as a package I was very impressed, really excited about getting mine now. Turns out that the Cayman IS a really good steer after all. Won't be selling my GT3 though, obviously !
I have no technical knowledge when it comes to gearboxes but can some one please explain why you cannot swap final drive ratio to give better/lower gearing from say another porsche model or there must be a specialist company out there to improve upon this if it is really as bad as some say!
Surely it's not to difficult/expensive to do once the car is out of warranty!

yes, I am sure that could be the case. however equally it's not as if they've buggered the car up, as you say, but it might be nicer with a shorter 2/3/4th ratio. perhaps my expectations were a bit lower than most, but I came away thinking, the general media hype is justifiable, this really is a proper little motorcar.seawise said:

I take far more notice of views where people have actually driven the car as opposed to those that just regurgitate the views of those that haven't. Well done seawise Tyres are MPSC2's running at 2 Bar front and 2.3 Bar rear cold at 18 C. They run up to around 2.3 front and 2.6 rear warm ...
I'm using up to 5000 revs at the moment on a moderate throttle, but with cooling down between stints which see the oil temperature go up to around 116 C.
In more spirited driving an extra radiator switches in which brings that water temperature down from around 110C to 85C and the oil temperature follows, but if not pressing so much --- the sport button also brings the extra radiator in to cool things down if you wish.
My driving is mainly country lanes and will also be track once I've done around 1200 miles --- and I'll be restrained on the first one.
I'll be using a max of 6000 revs at 1000 miles with always less than full throttle, and at that stage I'll change the engine and gearbox oil and replace any filters.
I'll be using 7000 revs by the time I've finished my first track day and using full throttle from time to time, but with cooling down slower laps between.
That's the plan anyway

I think not even half of the people allocated one have driven it,I for one don't get to drive until end of October and there are few others on here who won't get to drive it until November/December

Few other people I know who are getting one haven't driven it either and their PEC dates are in Dec and Jan

Why bother having a great engine in a road biased sportscar that revs to 7800rpm if you're going to make gearing on it so long you can only redline it in 2 gears without losing your licence here in the UK. That's what pees me off about 981 manual gearing (I'm not having a specific dig at the GT4)Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
