I do find it odd people are ok with the long ratio's in GT3's and now the GT4, when the car would perform faster and be more fun with shorter ones esp on UK B roads which imo what these cars are about, they are not GT motorway cars nor race cars !
Agreed. Despite what I said about 1st being useable in hairpins, having driven the GT4 a few 1000km on good roads I would certainly prefer, as I said a while back, 2nd to be lower, 3rd to be closer, 4th and 5th dropped accordingly and a bigger gap to an unchanged 6th. I can't understand why Porsche haven't done that when it is such a common criticism. Presumably an unchanged 6th would keep emissions and fuel consumption similar. It's a very exciting car as it is but a lower 2nd and 3rd would make it more so with greater acceleration where you want it and the extra involvement of more 2nd to 3rd changes. While I'd like the lower ratios I think I'll have to accept that for Porsches specific reasons be them ring times or the use in Germany we aren't going to quickly get them. Even if a cheapish ratio change was available I'd have to think very hard about invalidating my warranty.
So while I agree with everyone really all I want is the car! Just waiting for it to lock down for a November build....it can't come quickly enough.

When's yours due?
Feb / March makes more sense for me so not all bad.
End of October.... Justin time for some <10deg Winter driving Feb / March makes more sense for me so not all bad.
I guess it'll be in a corner somewhere getting dusty! Given that it's delayed anyway, huge shame they couldn't paint it Viper Green in the meantime

It's fine but could be amazing,
the GT3 boys also say their super crazy long ratio's are fine, but they are not really !!
Now I know this isn't the first time I have shown you this, but I will post it again anyways.the GT3 boys also say their super crazy long ratio's are fine, but they are not really !!
So the GT4 has a closer ratio box than both the GT3 GT3RS!!

Added CS pack which has delayed my build 6-8 weeks. Now anticipated Feb/March delivery.
I couldn't bring myself to buy it without CS. Expensive option, but cheap car anyway so just swallowed it.Feb / March makes more sense for me so not all bad.
Talk about crap communication should get a Ouija board!

2nd gear at 4k is about 42mph and in 3rd about 60mph
Ok given the above, how did you manage to come up with the below just a few posts ago....? PorscheGT4 said:
They just sap performance out of the car and leave you in no mans land on tight hair pins in 2nd, or lugging along at low revs at 80 odd mph in 3rd on B roads !
Lugging at say 6.5+k rpm in 3rd gear at 80+mph? Interesting one that... mdianuk said:
Surely the gearing all comes down to ensuring a small amount of restriction compared to the 911, as once again we remain in a situation where Porsche don't want their flagship 911 being slapped down by the improving Cayman.
I think I read on one of the american sites that if they gave the gt4 revised gear ratios more in accordance to what people would expect then according to their simulations it would smash the carrera and carrera s performance wise .itsybitsy said:

Interesting!
So the GT4 has a closer ratio box than both the GT3 GT3RS!!
Other way round, the higher number the lower the ratioSo the GT4 has a closer ratio box than both the GT3 GT3RS!!
I imagine it will be awesome going through the box on a proper track.
n17ves said:
I think you may have miss missed my point....the ratios are closer together then both the GT3 and RS. 1st and 2nd might well be long (not ideal for 0-60 times and go kart tracks like the PEC), but the ratios are spaced relatively close together when using the full range of gears.
I imagine it will be awesome going through the box on a proper track.
Sorry I see what you mean not so much of a difference with 997gt3 but a much larger difference between gears with the RS!I imagine it will be awesome going through the box on a proper track.
Could the larger wheels of the GT4 offset the difference with the gt3?
