What on earth were the thinking with those headlamps? I can sort of get it with the original design-the 996.1. But to then think oh no one likes these we better change them and to come up with the 996.2 look rofl

Still I suppose you don't have to look at them whilst you're having a blast driving I suppose. (You just get to look at the crappy interior instead biggrin )

996.2 GT3, especially RS I wouldn't say is the worst, I'm with the OP in that I reckon the turbo cars look even worse. Aggressive, yes. Certainly have road presence, but good looking? Not by a long way.

996.1 aerokit runs it very close though.

This thread should cause some healthy banter!

930 flatnose SSE
And what's one of them. Can't be a 930 and SSE? Or do you mean 930 SE.?

Or you could mean the SSE flatnose, rare as they get though.

Personally I love the 930 LE.

Ugliest has to be the 991. Huge goping great monster of an Audi.
You are correct, 10/10 for pedantry. biggrin

I was trying to cover off the flatnose 'family'

No.1 - POA at SCOM biggrin (could be a new longer term resident)!

No.2

No.3 - as a standard Porsche offering 996 cab in a bad colour.

Often it comes down to the choice of colour and wheel combination.

The 'MK2' lights were designed for the Turbo to differentiate it. They then put them on the Mk2 Carrera as part of the facelift.

I have to say I think the 996.1 is starting to look good now. Not too big like the 991 and with nice curves. Bargain if you can find a nice one with engine sorted!

That makes perfect sense apart from the fact that it feels like it was a panic reaction to me.

The new Porsche 'face' introduced in 1997 was MASSIVE for Porsche and I am sure you can remember how controversial it was. This was a very carefully considered strategic move away from the old brand identity. The Box and 996 had the same face for very deliberate reasons.

To change this so quickly, seems an about turn to me. Its not a subtle update, the front end profile is significantly different.

Bloody hell! What's the story with this one? Looks like an early 90s concept with a couple of little styling cues that ultimately evolved into the 996.

I think an early 80s targa with whale tail, in some naff colour like JRG or metallic green, would be top of my list for ugly 911s.

I have never owned a 996 but I would take a 996 RS in a heartbeat, and have no problem with the looks.

Personally, I'd vote for a vanilla 993...

Not classic 911, not modern take like 996. Just ugly.

And companies are still creating these type of 'unique' abominations and people are still buying them.

Thats interesting--I thought the 993 was the best looking 911 of the lot. Tidy small, very pretty.
