Try as might, I can't bring myself to give even a mouse-sized st about whether Aaron from after sales gives it some beans once a year on its trip to the garage and back. At the end of the day, these are supposedly well engineered cars - they aren't made out of unicorn tears and small children's dreams; they'll take a fair amount of stick without any harm being done.

I think some of you guys need to lighten up a bit....
Fair enough, I wish I could be more relaxed like this about how my car is driven when I'm not around. The problem for me is that Porsche actively use over-rev data to reject warranty claims and my car is under their warranty. I gave them over £80,000 that I worked hard to earn for this car and if anyone's going to thrash the car it's me, not someone who clearly doesn't give a st about whether or not I end up having to spend £30,000 on a new engine because he missed a gear shift whilst showing off on the dual carriageway.

I've let them return it to me a couple of times. Didn't think twice about it, but I do only live a mile or so from the dealer.

It's convenient. I drop it off when they open, they drive me to the station to get to work, it's on the drive (washed!) when I return home.

in a word, no chance, plus if you book in they give you a nice 991 to try for the day, that's enough to put you off electric steering and keep you from looking at new stuff ;-) Not sure it's should work like that but I always get back in my car and feel great.

you don't state who the OPC is
I've used this service from Cambs previously - the driver that picked mine up would not give me any cause for concern;
I've also been chauffeured by the same guy in one of their own cars when they took me into Cambs - he could have driven anyway he liked but it was like being with miss Daisy !
but, mine is a PDK so you can't over rev it.
And I always take a phone pic of mileage when they collect.

After a large UK dealer group's employee wrote off my F12 earlier this year having omitted to insure it, I will always drop my vehicles off. Always placed in the car are 2 A4 notices stating, no washing of the car, no test drives permitted, mileage recorded at x miles, any movement away from premises will be reported as TWOC.

Dealer staff are generally not the most sympathetic to vehicles they use (a massive generalisation) but why take the risk. I would never valet my vehicles either.

A tad over the top , when a quiet word with the service manager possibly followed with a confirmation email would be more than enough.

If there is such open lack of trust , why give them the opportunity in the first place ?

Depends on the brands and the people. 1 branded Garage local to me I have no problem with the people there and would trust them. Ferrari and Porsche, I have yet to meet anyone I wouldn't count my fingers walking away from. They have such a high churn rate on staff that service personnel be they "managers" (phone operators who can use excel for their group reporting but in my experience have limited technical knowledge of the brand / vehicles they are working with) or technicians are different every time I go, so no relationshipcan be built. It takes 2 to build a trusting relationship. For porsche I only use an OPC for warranty/campaigns/recalls as a local indie runs a race team and is more proficient for service etc. Interestingly PAG issued a bulletin to dealers recently reminding them not to leave oily rags in the engine bay as it may cause damage!

I bet that was an interesting phone call to receive.

I booked my car into my local OPC on the agreement that they would transport my car to the "local" Porsche Approved Bodyshop. 4 weeks later my car was trailered to my house with another 65 miles on the odometer, missing a quarter tank of fuel, a stained driver's seat and a lump taken out of my front n/s wheel which kicked the steering out.

What did I get - a fking denial

If you choose to use a pick up / drop off service consider asking for:

1. Proof of insurance to your satisfaction to include the times of insurance applicability and to which personnel - hint "employees" - of which group entity, and whether self employed "consultants" count as employees for insurance.

2. Time of cover - it usually is not 24hrs, any car, any person, but 9.30 to 5.30 and specific classes of employee, type of vehicle and specific purposes only.

3. Last time driving licence of driver was checked as still being valid with DVLA - hint if a person were to be disqualified the dealer systems are reliant upon them fessing up as a turkey and voting for Christmas.

4. Inspection on pickup of wheels and bodywork re kerbing scuffs etc.

5. Inspection on drop off of wheels and bodywork re kerbing scuffs etc.

6. Policy on damage - dealer is liable for any damage of whatever nature or they only need to use reasonable care to avoid damage - eg stone chips, wheel scuffs etc.

No chance!

Agree with all the comments about over revving, if a driver did this, you'd never know until selling time, but which time you're stuffed.....

I know of a dealer driver writing off a vx22 turbo when moving it around from one part of a VXL site to another, spanking the thing around some corners and ploughing into parked cars....

I'm sure there will be those out there who have a hissy fit about what I'm about to say but threads like this leave me amazed.

If you are so worried about invalidating your warranty of damaging your residuals that you won't let your OPC drive the car, then I would suggest that you can't afford the car......

Just curious now and asking as a mechanic. Do all of the worriers refuse a test drive if the car goes in for a service or repair as well?

Glad someone said it.
But OPC Event Man can't lighten up....impossible for them.

They are habitual worriers...to think of A N Other driving their first born, without Porsche Branded underwear, is frankly incredulous.

This type are regularly seen at these OPC evenings, brown pointy shoes/jeans, .disinterested, orange, second wife in tow , squeezed into the latest Karen Millen '(borrowed' from her daughter), ...quaffing through the Cava and stuffing down the battered prawns whilst desperately trying to interject to ensure some poor soul knows exactly what model their new born is.

Leave them 'dribble' in private.

This is disgraceful.
