I love my 986 but from the day the original concept car came out when I was a student, I've hated the name "Boxster". IMHO a Porsche should only ever be a number, and I've just got visions of some (beware sweeping generalisation) grey suited Germans at a marketing meeting going "I know, Boxster, ja? Did you zee what we did there? Get it? Boxer Roadster, ja? Hahaha!" Why they didn't call it the 986 Spyder or 986 Speedster I'll never know. Add the fact that the overley complicated Boxster boot badge just seems to be the perfect dirt trap, and I'm thinking of replacing it with something less fussy.

I know some people have totally de-badged their cars, but I'm not keen on the totally clean look. So what are the the collective thoughts on the below?

Was hoping that this was more than a discussion on a de-badging exercise.

A thread on taking an early Boxster back closer to the original concept would have been interesting!

Yes, but those names have always been prefixed by a number...356 Speedster, 718 Spyder, 911 Carrera etc etc. The Boxster was never marketed as the "986 Boxster" was it?

No it didn't have the numbers on the boot lid. Mind you the 1980s 911 Turbos didn't have 911 on the boot so a precedent had been set... Anyway just P O R S C H E on the boot looks fine, crack on with it and show us the photos.

I think you should do whatever makes you happy and looks best in your view. The only thing I'd say about P O R S C H E is that you're repeating the lettering on that baffle in the picture (don't know whether you have one yourself). Only a small point I know.
