Approx £85 per damper. Yours will almost certainly need damper rods as the hard chrome plating pits, then fails which in turn rips the seal packs to shreds. The damper rods are approx £20-25. All prices plus vat.

All in all it still works out far cheaper than a new damper. smile

As a footnote it's well worthwhile getting the spring seats and their locking rings (and to a lesser extent the anti roll bar mounts) freed off before you have the dampers overhauled.

The spring seats, locking collars and ARB towers are also ~ 1/2 the price than anybody else for them !

Or buy the Cayman R items from your local Porsche dealer, these come with several additional benefits over the standard 996 GT3 items : They never need refurbishment, they're not old, their fitment transforms the 911's handling and removes understeer.
Because they're lighter it effectively changes the 996 GT3's gearing and miraculously improves not only the hopeless gear ratios, but also fills in the massive void in the the torque curve.

And the final added benefit of fitting them comes in the braking zone, fitment of the Cayman R items ensures you can outbrake ANYTHING on the road (be they F1 cars, LMP cars, WRC cars or Champ cars)

Quite why the factory didn't recall every 996 GT3 made and retro fit the Cayman items remains a mystery confused

Slippy, do you have a contact at Bilstein UK? My rear dampers on the 3 are weeping a little at only 17K and I would prefer to keep the originals if I can.

What did they charge per corner for the service (if you don't mind me asking)?
I had exactly the same issue at the same mileage in mine. Not great. And it needed new ARBs and some bushes. Oh, and the diff was shagged. Great car though. Sorely missed.

You're aware the £10k across the board refurbishment figure has now been revised to £13k ? I'd save you're money, seems there's some big expenses looming large that we've not allowed for, apparently ..... biggrin

Lovely Slippy.

I put a deposit on a very similar GT3 clubsport in guards red and the owner told me it was one of his collection and wanted for nothing. I paid £250 for an inspection and the clutch lunched itself on the test drive.

Aso needed shocks all round, brakes all round and some exhaust parts.

Totalling around 8k. He wouldn't meet me anywhere on price, I walked.

A year before I put another deposit on a Guards red GT3 in Ireland, booked inspection and the guy who had bought my 964 through JZM pulled out.

I feel the Guards red GT3 is the Porsche that got away from me!

I always thought you should have kept that 964 Lee ........ Someone got a cracking car that had been built properly, cheap. Imagine doing the same build now eek

£8k ? Sounds like JZM prices to me biggrin

Yes it was a great car and would cost a fortune to recreate now. The car has a 3.8 now! I considered buying it back instead of my current 964t but wanted something different.

The GT3 inspection was done by Zentrum who seemed very good. Missed my chance, I remember when there used to be 8-10 GT3's in the classifieds!

If you want something that is ridiculously overpriced, and is a pretty awful car full stop (narrow body, trim, colour etc etc..), then look no further:

To think you could get a 996 GT2 or 3 or Turbo plus second car for that matter instead beggars belief. But I suppose at least it comes with a free beard.....?

Top whack price without a doubt- but there are very few mint 993's around with less than 40k miles on the clock-

What is this 993 bashing about all of a sudden. rolleyes

Narrow body C2 993 pretty awful? Extremely low mileage and £50K? Expensive yes (as all aircooled seems to now be), but compared to what, this?
