The £25k Porsche

You're not going to do many miles so I suppose you can indulge a little more. Running costs/improvements will be offset against Cayman/Boxter/997 depreciation.

You'll still get a nice 80's 3.2 or a 996 Turbo for £25k. Just be patient for the right car. And enjoy owing an icon rather than a sports car!

In many ways the 25k budget is the most difficult.

Out of your list, I would go 996T even with the compromise of 4WD.

Yeah, I'd agree, closely followed by a 997S if I wanted something a bit more modern with more sound or a 996C4S if I wanted better looks and more sound.

987 Boxsters and caymans, while great cars, look a bit of a dogs dinner to my eye compared to the styling of other options at this price range so wouldn't get a look in, although the former *might* if I was desperate for a convertible.

25K to spend lots to choose from...two choices older or more modern.

It depends on what you want to get out of the car. Is it really purely for driving pleasure only or are there other considerations, bragging rights, image, an investment, use on track, urban v rural, Summer weekender or all year round - that type of thing.

I've never driven a Boxster but they come with a great rep from a pure driving pleasure point of view. I've driven different 911's and my facourite all round drivers are the basic manual rear drive Carrera's.

Pretty much my perfect Porsche, certainly in the <£50k bracket.

OP its a no brainer if you can find a good turbo for this sort of money.

Thanks to all for the input so far. In the past I have had a couple of 944's, a 96 Boxster 2.5 and a 99 996 C2, all of which I was impressed with at the time. Its now been a few years since I owned a Porsche tho but getting back to a company car is what has brought this on again.

So, after looking this weekend i've pretty much decided I don't want convertible so boxster is out, I do love the gen 2 cayman but can't help feeling that I'd still want a 911 so I have narrowed it down to either a 996tt or a 997 c2s, I really like the look of aerokit models but not a deal breaker. I really need to go and drive them both to see if either gives me a better feeling than the other.

I do love the older aircooled models but I think for me I'd prefer the drive of a more modern car.

Now to search the classifieds

Sold it 18 months ago. Value probably about the same now give or take (It didn't depreciate in the 2 years I had it).

If you don't already have a convertible and don't hate the idea of roofless motoring, a Gen2 987 Boxster S is a fantastic weekend car. Otherwise at £25k I think that you are better to go 911 shaped, left hand drive and air cooled.

I have Just done exactly that a month ago 2003 996tt 80k on clock and I'm in Love with it!!!!!
