I put money down now we will not see pictures here of 27 caged up GT4's
Or close to 70% of sales caged cars ...

Bit like the PH 100k what would you buy threads which are utter laughable.

Just seems a lot of wannabe's

Let see what people order in Feb :-)

Having one in your garage and saying "yes" on a forum are way apart ESP on here lol.

Every one said the 996gt3 RS was the one to have, hardcore etc etc but you could pick them up easy at £60k for years.
only when the prices started to rise did they start selling.

Well that's not much of a bet is it? Some people voting won't be offered a car, for others their circumstances might change prior to purchase and nobody knows the spec yet, so some people won't buy if the spec is wrong even if it is offered with CS package. Personally, I'd want AC and CS package and apart from that, I'd be happy - buy a tom-tom for the nav and hands free phone calls.

I think that you have a point here. My 993 RSR has no air con, no carpets, a horrible ride and is barely drivable without wearing earplugs - If Porsche produced a car like that now, they would be laughed at. Yet the market see's this car as one of the greatest that porsche ever built and this is blithely excepted by the very people how shrink at the thought of not have aircon and different stitching options et al in their new GT3 or GT4. Utterly irrational

True - what we want to know is, of the people that actually buy one and also voted on this thread, are 7/10 of those with CS package. If I do buy one and CS is an option, I will definitely have it with CS.

Steve - I'm with you on the AC thing but I can't stand sweating my nuts of on a hot track day, so any closed top car has to be with AC for me. If it was an open top, then I'd definitely not bother with it. I'm surprised more race cars don't have AC to bee honest, surely being a comfortable temperature improves driver performance even if it does cost a few kilos?

To be fair, these days aircon can be fitted with only a few kg weight penalty. When the 993 and 996 were built, it was around 30KG and that is too high a price to pay - especially when engineers work extremely hard to find a few grams of weight saving

The 997 cup never used to have aircon fitted because the races were only an hour long - but the RSR which is designed for longer stints does have it ( I believe ).

Bloody right it should have aircon for the price of the thing !and sat nav whilst your at it. Had those fitted in my GT3cs and couldnt give 2 hoots about the weight saving or not. It was a road car that was very good on track. I doubt anyone is "really" looking for the extra tenths of a second on their respective "trackdays" are they , and the options make it a pleasurable car to drive everyday. But .... I feel we are getting ahead of ourselves. If the GT4 is not endowed with enough ooomph in the first place then aircon, cage or PCM is a mute point !

you could say a GT3 should have a nice set of 3 ways for that price though.
I have always found the GT3 model very odd that it has never had adjustable Shocks, but it's classed as the closest thing to a race car you can buy, when really it's nothing like one !!
Feb the 5th is not far away now for the spec release on these GT4's, but's it's going to be a road car which is fun to drive, not a race car.

I'm leaning on No AC.

30 min sessions even in 30 degree temp is not an issue for me. And, in the UK, it doesn't get that hot anyway. + weight savings ai sround 12 kg in modern AC

Why should the road car get 3 way adjustable dampers when the race car has fixed rate dampers?

no idea, just saying for a 100k track car it should have 3 ways imo, most people mod GT3 with after market shocks to hi end stuff

it's daft these cars don't have it , when you can buy a hot hatch with adjustable Ohlins on a 30k car.

This is the nub of the issue. Anyone with petrol in their veins wants the nibbleness that comes with light weight and the no-compromise suspension that allows you to really lean on the thing, but as a road car this in just not practical, and Porsche make their money from building road cars.

I do the odd trackday in my CS, but wouldn't want to lose my creature comforts as it is my daily drive. I get my no-compromise track fix every time I get behind the wheel of my Evo.

Touring cars also have fully adjustable dampers, but they don't lap as fast as a cup car which has fixed rates. The Ferrari 458's in the GT cup that I raced in also fully adjustable dampers but the 997 Cup on it's fixed rate dampers was quicker.

The GT3 doesn't need them. If you were familiar with the workings of a 3 way unit you would understand that on the road they are impractical. In addition to them not being necessary on a GT3, They leak, blow their seals, get bunged up with grime and locked with road salt.

There is however an argument for a decent fixed rate passive damper to replace the PASM system - but that is another matter

In Sweden the most of the GT3:s are Clubsport.. And the comfort GT3´s tend to be harder to resale. (With lower offered prices than the CS-cars) I think 9 out of 10 GT4´s in Sweden will be ordered with the CS-package if it´s available. How do you guys think the cage in the GT4 will affect the trunk in the back?

If the fitting follows conventional practice and it is fixed to the rear wheel arches, then I think you will lose the stowage space over the engine cover but will probably retain the area behind it.

The R is far closer to the 964RS than the GT4 will be imo.
Oooooh, I'm all ears, tell us how the R is "far closer" to the 964 RS than the GT4 will ever me. Better still, tell us your experience behind the wheel of a 964 RS why don't you ? My guess is you've never driven a 964 RS, let alone drive one in anger. Carry on making those ludicrous assumptions why don't you. Wonderful entertainment as ever. rofl

Tut, tut, another edit after posting, this is becoming a habit smash

Yep, I'm the one that needs help with my mental health hehe

Anyway, you seem to have neatly sidestepped my question. So come on, we're all still waiting to hear about the numerous drives you've had in a 964 RS......... You know, so you can give us some more of your worthwhile and objective views on the topic.

P.S Stalking doesn't need a capital s, neither does the u in unhealthy.

P.P.S This is a public forum, the clue's in the word public, I don't need to visit your profile page to find what posts you've been trolling on, it's given that ANY topic regarding the Cayman R or GT3 is pretty much guaranteed to have a contribution some entertaining nonsense/trolling from you.

P.P.P.S Been doing my Chrissy shopping this afternoon, whilst in rather nice gift shop I found this :

For some reason it made me think of you. Suffice to say, it being Christmas/ goodwill to all men and all that kind of stuff, I bought it for you. Pop your address up on here and I'll get it in the post to you before Chrissy.......

David (aka mrdemon) is alright last time I met up with him...and I can answer for him that he had not owned nor driven a 964RS. That situation may be different today. I know he had a lovely Boxster Spyder which I wanted (assume he has sold it by now) to buy from him and also a 996 GT3.

Anyway, it is a public forum and there seems to be the usual antagonism however I guess it helps to pass the time by...
