Not a huge fan of the graphics on the side, but thats a lovely car, quite beautiful, definite future classic! I have always liked the 996 C2 in silver, clean and simple

Indeed. That interior looks great.
Much better than either the OAP grey or the baby diahorea Savannah
agrred but all worse than black, boxster red is an odd shade of red - strange orange/terracotta tinge to it
Black is never going to set your world on fire, but it's classy and understated, and can look really good with a few cabin trim highlights (like the silver pack my old car had, or exterior colour matched centre console etc).

Boxster red never photographs well, and always looks better in the flesh. Most I have seen have black mats and don't have the red steering wheel, and so the overall effect isn't too red.
Looks good in the CGT..

I disagree that the rpm car is overpriced. Colour is superficial. It has sports seats, LSD, polybushed suspension, upgraded shocks and springs and a lightweight flywheel. As a driver's car these things will make a difference. A couple of aerokitted 3.4s have sold recently for £15-16k. It might be a narrow market, and it might not be the one to buy for investment, but if it's what you want it might not be bad value.
OP does your mates car have the same mechanical spec though?

A friend of mine is considering selling his.

Valuation please!

Manual RWD.

Car has done 63k miles, Porsche replacement engine in 2005 at 23k miles.

This ISN'T his, but gives you an idea on what the trade are thinking....

Thanks in anticipation hehe
I value your friends car at about 5 grand. Now lets stop this bks, and give me my prize.

On a different note, I have a 1999 Renault Scenic with 198k miles on the clock, and I saw a very similar one advertised on Ebay for 10 grand. Mine has furry dice though.
Is it the one to buy? Only you can say.

You mean the uprated stuff? No, it's completely standard.

19K seems a lot for the RPM car even with the upgrades, quick search on Autotrader shows candidates like the one below:

Point taken. However, notwithstanding the engine rebuild (I would expect the engine on RPM's car to have been boroscoped and compression-tested), with a car of this age many prospective purchasers are buying on condition and are seeking a sound car with traceable history and a good deal of mechanical work already undertaken, underpinned with a warranty. Naturally there will be a premium for buying from a specialist in comparison to buying privately.

Breaking it down, what must be a c.£10k spend on Bilstein/Eibach suspension, Powerflex bushes, corresponding geo, IMS upgrade, clutch and lightweight flywheel , new discs/pads, new front tyres, etc. in conjunction with £8-10k for a base car justfies the price IMHO.

When I originally looked for a 911 I had some basic criteria. Rear drive, coupe, manual, no sunroof, and wanted the slimmer bodyshell as I think in 10 years time when these will be classics this will be the spec most sought after. I'm of the opinion that these early 996s will definitely appreciate but might take a while yet. They are an amazing package of performance, handling and practicality in a pure design. I appreciate not everyone will agree and maybe I'm alone in thinking that a 993 looks like a V12 series 3 E type, that is a design that once was beautiful but now massively outdated. The 996 rebooted the 911 and I'm inclined that in time this will be seen for what it was, a massive step forward. At some point the prices will reflect this.

Please explain this fascination with the Sunroof. I hear it very often in air-cooled talk but really can't see why a sunroof makes any difference.
