Look forward to seeing the mag.

I must admit I am growing a little tired of 911 & PW and GT PP too, they are ok but the articles are about as deep as a puddle. Some of the stories they have run had such potential like the RUF group test and the DMS cars at Bruntingthorpe...but I felt cheated due to the lack of detail.

I want to feel like I am there with them, experiencing the buzz of the cars....like I do when I read evo.

Not sure this is true anymore. I threw my teddy out my pram when Porsche stopped using air to cool the engine, and reduced build quality to cut costs. Having actually owned a new one I like them more and more everyday. I'm lucky to have an air coolled, rear wheel drive 911 turbo aswell, but the 997 is simply superb, and it feels like a traditional Porsche to me.

I love them all. Apart from Boxsters obviously.

Not me personally John (I'm not knowlegable enough), but if we know that you are open to this, then the first time I hear any moaning about your articles on this board (complaining about inacurate data) I will point the PHer in your direction.

I wonder if they would be interested in a technical article perhaps written on the 911 engine that covers peformance fundamentals specific to this engine?

I have a few suggestions, but you probably have these bases covered already:

1) Why not consider proof reading? I mean proof reading by owners of the specific car you are featuring. Too many magazine articles just copy what has been written before in previous articles. This leads to the same mistakes and myths being repeated time and again and it makes me want to shout and scream when I see it happening in relation to a car I know something about. There are many PHers who know stacks about 911s (I know you do too), but why not ask for the input or for proof reading from the register secretaries in the PCGB? Or other experts, eg PHers? You could reward them with a free subscription or something, or even just a name-check at the foot of the article.

2) Please resist the temptation to do an article on every new car that Specialist Cars of Malton get in stock, and then put their number plates on that say "MALTON" in a not very subtle way.

3) Please write articles that are detailed. I mean DETAILED. I want it to take hours to read the article. I want to read stuff I didn't know before. Photography is important, but not as important as detailed acurate info on the 911 you are featuring.

4) Having said that.......please make it a glossy and attractive magazine that will look cool on one's coffee table.

5) Have a letters page.

6) Feature real second hand cars for sale like they do in 911 & PW.

7) Please avoid the "in-joke" type writing that you see in Evo. We aren't bothered about how many Marlboros John Barker smokes, or that biker Hayman for that matter. I believe that a journalist's writing should speak for itself. The Evo writers want to be famous. Having said that, I love Evo. The enthusiasm they have for cars is something I would like to see in your magazine.

8) Why not have a "Readers' Cars" feature every month. I would be very pleased to supply my 993 RS for such an article....just give me a year to fettle the thing to perfection.

I'm looking forward to the magazine. 911 & PW is just what I want at the moment but this will be more focussed on the model than interests me most and I'm expecting it not to be as superficial as GTPP.

Hope all goes well with the venture and I look forward to seeing it. My two cents worth on the topic of it’s place in the Porsche magazine market is this.

First thoughts are that by limiting content to purely 911 you’ve immediately got less to work with - smaller customer base etc. Add this to the fact we’re already served by two (on the whole good) magazines and the reason for it’s existence, I feel, becomes questionable. However it’s certain that the 911 contingent represent the most dedicated fans. There are far more ‘transient’ Porsche owners now. You’ve got people buying a Porsche who, before the arrival of the Boxster and Cayenne, would never have done so (for various reasons). So my view is it matters far less that what must be a sizeable amount of potential customers are excluded. Percentage wise I would say it’s a good bet that far more real Porsche enthusiasts own 911’s than any other Porsche so one of the fact it’s 911 specific is more of an advantage than anything else.

Think it may be a while before we see Total Cayenne.

Good luck!

Apart from the odd magazines, I think there is a market for people to collect the whole set- sort of to use as a reference point, with correct detail.

Just a shame you're not including my car, the 944 Turbo!

Clive may have reviewed the 'brief'. Unfortunately, I think it has produced a watered down product, where the thin paper, small ads and below average photos add up to a slightly disappointing experience for some readers. Others love it. Some people really want to read about DIY wishbone bush replacemtns for £99.

I expect some people will love Total911. It will offer a different, more detailed perspective on 911 ownership, 911 heritage, 911 tech and a bit more.

I really can't wait to read it!!

Sorry, I should have added that Clive reviewed the brief before he even launched the mag - after all it was initially intended to be just "911 World".

I have no connection with him or any other publisher - Frankly, after a certain amount of time subscribing to these types of specialist magazine, I find that the same type of stories keep coming up - no fault of the publisher, just a fact of life.

I am quite looking forward to seeing this new mag. I've subscribed to 911&PW for yrs but beginning to loose interest. Not happy about it when they stopped the RC, that's the only bit my wife reads as well!
Hope the new mag will cover in details about 911 up-grades and mods, like suspension, engines, lights etc. There are so many 911 models, I'm sure there's plenty to write about for yrs! When is the first issue?
Hope I can buy it from most newsagent, the problem with GT PP is that I can never get the damn thing, only shop I can find it in is WHS.

I will be interested to read the first few issues and see if this has enough to sustain interest that so many single marque mags don't.

Just a thought - Would it be interesting to write several articles on the same car but from different perspectives i.e. a technical review with real detail (not my cup of tea), a commercial piece on what the car is like to buy and sell, a story on blatting down to Monnaco in a day and some readers cars for good measure.

This would give some different perspecitives on the variety of ways in which these cars give us such pleasure, without the reader having to wade through paragraphs of chassis numbers, and how the '97 model had 4 extra bhp, to get to what interests them about that model. Alternatively readers could sit back and read cover to cover to get a real insight into that model.
