Looks great - i will buy it.

Also agree that 911 Purely Pap is nice looking but lacking any decent reading material whatsoever. The design and photo staffers there seem to know their stuff but the writing is awful...

911 & PW is OK but there are 2 many articles that don't interest me and the design reminds me of a parish newsletter. It just does'nt look good enough....

So I think you are on to something here !

I would say, however, that by far the worst Porsche publication is the Porsche Post. Nothing interesting to read at all - I really do not care that the retired owner of a carpet warehouse in Derby held a cheese and wine evening for the local Porsche club chapter. And I REALLY do not want to see photos of it !!

The Porsche Post is expensively printed on glossy paper but has absolutely nothing worth reading, apart from the hilarious classifieds ads of Porsche owners asking for over-inflated prices !!

Good luck with the magazine !

Sure, but then it is a CLUB magazine for members of the CLUB and for whom it may be the only way of them keeping up to date with what the CLUB is doing for them.

Would you like the CLUB mag to contain articles on fast planes, boats and cars?...If so I'll send you some copies of PP published in the early '90s (actually I won't - I keep them to remind me of what happened to PCGB when the wrong individuals were running it). Frankly, it was glossier than a Camper & Nicholson brochure and as relevant to the Porsche Club as...a Camper & Nicholson brochure.

Havng said all that, it is dull - I read other club mags that are more interesting but that's down more to the type of people who are members and contribute...

Well I've subscribed so I can spend a year deciding whether it's any good, but I buy about 20-30 car magazines a month so I'll probably get it anyway!

Getting the facts right will be best, thats what annoying about GTPP............

Fair points - but surely while it is right to report on club activities, there seems little point in dedicating such a large percentage of the magazine to pieces and photos of parts of the club that the vat majority of the members do not know and never will know. Seeing 10 people sat around a table for a christmas party is only ever going to be interesting to those same 10 people !

I would think that most PCGB owners want to read articles celebrating the brand, its history, the engineering of the cars, and the joy of owning them. All tied in with great photos. Don't see much of that in the Porsche Post...

Just my 2p worth anyway. But I must admit that the Porsche Post and my copy of Evo usually arrive around the same day - no guessing which one often stays in its bag unopened or is quickly flicked through before being consigned to the garage...

I`ll pin my flag to the mast. I`m a little sceptical. I hope it doesn`t turn out to be a "911 is the only car Porsche should ever have made" mag. If I was to get on my high horse I might suggest that the mag be limited to the only true pure Porsches to leave the factory gates, race cars. None of this namby pamby soft as Sh*t road car rubbish. In reality I actually think it`s good to throw all the different models into the pot and enjoy them for what they are.

What a happy mixture Brands Hatch (Porsche club festival), was. Everyone saw into each other`s back yards and saw what tickled their neighbours fancy. The racers appreciated the showroom shine on the concours guy`s cars and in return they got some insight into what the cars are capable of. The historic 911 owners had the chance to experience the awsome capabilities of the Cayenne and in return their owners discovered the depth of quality and design innovation in the bloodline that terminated in the creation of their 4 by 4s.

How would you discuss early 911s without including the 356, the 912/4/6. How can you truely appreciate the different schools of thought that were fighting for their respective corners in the `80s without looking at the 924/944/928

As for the editorial and writing team we`ll see. Will it be made up of enthusiastic amateur Porscheofiles raiding the Autocar data section for numbers and detailed specifications or will the articles be written by people who know their stuff like the back of their hand, who`s knowlege is instinctive and who`s views are formed by years of owning / driving / racing / working and living with the cars.

Time will tell. Meanwhile I wish everyone the very best of luck in what is not an easy task and will read the results with an open mind and look forward to be entertained.

Re : Porsche Post a totally different kettle of fish. A mag specifically for members of the club and as a result aimed at a much more provincial audience. Those members who attended the cheese and wine tasting would have been thrilled to bits to see their photos published. I think it performs it`s designated task very well indeed and is comprensive enough that there will always be something of interest to hold the reader even if they first have to skip a few pages to get there.

Looking forward to reading more stuff dedicated to my favourite car. I am hoping that there will be some wholesome information is there to increase my knowledge as a new owner of an oldish Porsche. I like to feel that I have learned or gained something from my car mags.

I used to get LRO (Land Rover mag) but found that I was having to fight my way through thousands of adverts to find anything of any interest. I also appreciate that these advertisers probably pay a lot towards the existence of such a publication...

Having only recently purchased my car as well - I am not going to be able to justify another £49 subscription - I know I am probably excessively miserly, but £4.08 per mag for a subscribed member still seems a little steep to me.

Good luck with it - lets hope I cant afford not to buy it!!!

One thing that really annoys me with Porky post and some if these other magazines are the Private for sale ads, they have something like a 5 week delay before it appears. With the net and ebay, things have moved on if you are buying/selling a porsche.

True, Paul but you can post on the Club's website - shame that more of the advertisers don't seem to be aware of that!

I do look on there, but it seems very thin, indicative of the cheese & wine crowd's computer skills

Looking forward to a New more traditional mag with accurate detail, and real owner reviews ,so good luck with it, and the proof will be in the reading of it. Suffice to say i don’t read GT ,have tried!
I have proof read the detail in articles on the lightweight cars for several motoring journalists, and they still go to print wrong! But there intentions are good.

In defence of the club mag ,i look forward to mine ,there are some great articles some times ,and yes to many cheese and wine eves.

I do know the motor sport side of the club have been trying to get our own/club mag off the ground with stand alone funding from advertisers etc .It promises to be a great mag ,but may get a little boring for those who do not race or interested in it!

I produced a users /practical buyers guide for the 993 rs ,which got inaccurately edited and cropped!
But saying this, the editor is always asking for articles, so feel free chaps and put some articles together, they will get to print some time.

The are some real bargains to be had in the for sale sections some times, and enthusiastic owners who pamper there cars, with good history etc, which will make a good buy for some one, at the right price of course, because they do tend to be on the high side ,just send a good buyer to get it for you ,or be prepared to barter .Im sure Henry can teach you a few tricks about the long lost friend or brother, who would love to sell you there car!!:type

I agree, I've bought several cars through the club mag from disillusioned sellers who have had no bites at the ludicrous prices they initially put their cars up for...the trick is to wait a couple of weeks after publication and then call the vendor. Chances are he's had no other calls and will be in the frame of mind to negotiate...

Not at all. The best way is to come clean and say who you are..... actually no, that wouldn`t always work I suppose if you were some Welsh dude running in the Speeeeeeeeeeeeed championship !

Rumour has it someone`s sold their 993 race car and might be coming to play with the big boys this season. Don`t suppose you`d know anything about that !

Keep smiling and get those lads sorted out with a decent set of wheels.

Henry news travels fast, I thought i was playing with the big boys, but missing out the slower class 2!
Yes it should be a challenge.
Graham has now got a 3.0ltr sc for the club champs class 2,so when your daughter grows a little older, I will have a word and get dad to buy her a Ferrari or a race car too!But you never know she may want a cool vw polo!
Also some news for you, Peter Morris has joined our club of ex gvr racers, they have dropped him, chris is going to do seat cup! Peter called me tonight he is a little p off and stuck for words really.
A little rumour, not sure if its correct or not, have you had a little excursion in a later 996 cup car.
Regards

Spoke to the PM last night and he did indeed confirm GVR`s position. I can see why Chris would find the Seat championship appealing, not sure it`s Gordon`s best route to a rosy future, although there is light at the end of the tunnel if someone wants them to run some cars in `06/`07. There is potentially more budget as people will see it as a stepping stone to BTCC etc. The big mistake they made was selling the PM all the 968 bits and sending him the Club route rather than persuading him to run a Seat next year. They were a very good pairing last year and would have generated just the publicity GVR needed in a new championship. Very short sighted. But then it`s always easy looking from the outside, Gordon could probably make me quicker in the GT3 from the outside !

Re: winter testing at Jerez - very productive, found some time and laid foundations for the `05 season. Still to decide exactly where we`re going to be. Not sure if it includes the Open or not. A bit dispondant with the organisation and promotion. After all we haven`t even got any dates for this year when even very minor championships were firming up in November. Re : the publicity side of things even the club website isn`t up to date, when GVR go there will be nothing to promote it.

On a more practical matter, other than subscribing, where can I find a copy? I tried WHSmith in Charing Cross station and no luck.

A great magazine about the 911 already exists, it is called Flat 6 and it is written in French. In contrast, 911&Pworld reads like Practical Classics, GTPP like a picture book and the Porsche Post is unnecessarily glossy. A great article in my view is Ian Kuah's comparison of the RSs in Excellence.
