Jevvy was looking for a place on page 3. I know him quite well and will send him a message to get him over here.

Here's a short video from Jodrell Bank (Manchester University) showing how the eclipse will look on the RS day. You will probably need to be logged into Facebook for this to work but having looked the film doesn't seem to be available anywhere else.

Should make for an interesting start to the day. scratchchin

My space is available. I've discussed it with MSV and they'll happily do a name change - easiest way of doing things. PM me if interested.

Thanks

Any idea what a pro drivers Oulton park lap time would be in a 991GT3?

A couple of seconds off this? Maybe the driver is a Pro?

He's done a 2.05 and a 2.03 there.

I would think a cup driver would be 1.50's.

Here is Sean Edwards 7 years ago in a 996 doing a 2.02 on a warm up lap.

A gt3 458 race car does it in 1.31. (qualifying)

Here's a 1.38 from Balbiani...

I don't know what a pro would manage but it'd be a lot quicker than that - that looked to be around 2 minutes. I was quicker than that in my 911 SC (204bhp), yes it was race prep'd but min finish weight 1125kgs and on road tyres (Pilot Sport Cups), and quicker still in the rented 944 S2 (1.57.2). I've not driven a 991 GT3 yet but I would expect the first target would be a 1.50, then based on how easy/difficult that is to achieve adjust your goal from there.

Track days are not about lap times though, timing's not allowed. People do it with various hardware/software but going out trying to get your best time isn't good as you need to give consideration to other cars and drivers (rather than be tempted to try to pass them at any cost because you're chasing a lap time).

If you have a 991 GT3 and need help with Oulton I'd definitely be able to help improve your lines and/or technique which would of course result in better times too (whether this is something you could measure or not).

I only wanted to know times to see how much of my cars ability I get to use.
I have no interest in being the fastest but equally would hate to be so far off the pace that my choice of car is obviously beyond me.

Oulton is my local circuit and Ive driven it more than any other circuit and have had some instruction over the years.

Fair enough, I maybe got the wrong end of the stick. It looks like we have similar ideas about times anyway. I think familiarity helps more with times at Oulton than most other circuits so with your experience I'm sure you'll put in an impressive performance.

I didn't time the 991 GT3 laps, nor listen to the sound to see if he was stretching each gear out. I just googled "991 GT3 Oulton" and came up with that. Obviously the video was neither use nor ornament. Sorry.

imo always of some use. Very smooth no drama laps, I think he may of been getting used to the car, and taking that in to account counting gear changes can give you approx speeds. Very quick car.

Managed a 1:48/1:49 way back in 2010 (I wasn't timing, just looking over old videos), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkFFWIfDdSo was good fun, don't think I will ever get near that again.

991 GT3 should be low 50's, 997 Cup should be low to mid 40's (Fingers terrority)
