993 Prices tipped to rise again in 2015

Hoping for a big leap in black C2 tiptronic cabs so I can sell it and get in to a 997 turbo, might have to wait another couple of years though!!!!!

if you want the true price of a 993, look at Hexagons forecourt then times by 0.6

What I also find interesting is how JZM have suddenly got an awful lot of VERY expensive 911's on sale....

GT3 RS's have also stopped rising exponentially.

The winter generally sees a 10-15% cooling off. If prices for the RS's remain static over the winter, it could be more an indication of a 10-15% increased value more than the norm for this time of year. This takes nothing away from the fact that the JZM air cooled stuff is shockingly expensive.

I'm never convinced about this winter dropping off thing. It may be different for Porsches, but in the Ferrari market it seems to be an oft told myth. Voicey on here keeps track of asking prices for several models based on some software he wrote which skims PH ads, no dip has ever really been seen. If anything, prices firm up a little as there tend to be fewer cars on the market as people don't sell because they think they'll get less, and a whole bunch of people who've been reading the Internet out there trying to buy because apparently it's cheaper. I'd wager that dealers may do less sales, but I don't think they have to drop their prices to get them. And no dealer/sales manager has ever come on here to my knowledge and said "it's winter, get a bargain while you can" - and sales spiel in their ads does not count

Fair point Mario, but with slow to non-existent sales in the winter (for the fair-weather cars at least), many in the car selling game are more open to deals to get some form of liquidity movement. I have no experience of Ferrari so cannot really comment.
Other than perhaps the last year or so, I have noticed reductions in price for Porsches from Nov-Feb.

I think some of the 'Specials' are now going for silly money, and not just the 993 but any aircooled.

My boggo standard, high mileage but great history low owner NB Manual with Sports seats I could have sold ten times over in the last year, and every enquiry was through a private email. I truly believe this is because there are not that many for sale, that prices for the higher mileage examples are rated as too low, (compared to other motors) or what is about needs money spent on it.

I have come to the conclusion that if a lot of the classic car prices fell off a cliff tomorrow, the standard 993 would not fall with them unless it was a low mileage example that was up for serious dosh.

Compared to other marques, the 993 C2/C4 manual with over 100K miles is a bit of a bargain IMHO. Personally I wish all 'Classics' were back to pre 2007 prices.

Just to clarify, the post wasn't aimed at you directly, more that it keeps coming up and I finally wanted to say something! Obviously we can't know what selling prices are exactly in relation to asking price, but dealers might be more open for a deal, say a couple of % discount. That said regarding fair weather cars or otherwise, I've *never* seen a consistent 5% drop in asking prices in Porsche or Ferrari over the winter when I've been looking for a car, let alone 10-15% . If 997 or 360 prices dropped from £50k to £45k (or less), *no-one* would miss spotting the decrease and corresponding increase later on I think. For me, the mere fact that we're debating whether there is a drop means that there is none, or at least none of any real significance.

fwiw, i refused several £50-52k bids on my manual 993 c2s ocean blue. 83k miles.
It is mint though and i spend a LOT of money on it to keep it close to concourse condition.

I was thinking of selling at the end of last year and instead spent more money on it to make it even better.

NB 993 coupe. Paid £28,000 from dealer in 2005 with 82,000 miles
Spent £20k in maintenance/upgrades over 10 years
Sold for £30,000 privately in 2014 with 94,000 miles

(brother's car, not mine)


I hope prices are tipped to rise in 2015, I think it's about time they did. These cars cost so much on maintenance and upkeep, you get a real bargain if you buy privately these days and find someone who needs to sell - like me unfortunately.

I hope the prices do continue to rise. im just about to put this 993 C2 manual up for sale. Started out by having some minor paintwork done and it turned into pretty much a full body restoration. That on top of new suspension, brakes, lightweight clutch, re trimmed interior it's starting to look good.

I guess I have been very lucky because at least the price may have been going up whilst doing the work (that wasn't the plan) I would love 33-35k but who knows. The bills just keep going up, an example of that is like when taking the glass out to repaint the car the front screen broke, makes no difference to the asking price but its an extra £500 paid out.

If its HPI clear good history, manual, the engine doesn't smoke and less than 150K then I'd say with all the work you've done I'd say your sell it easily. Even the dealers are playing catch up on 993 prices.

The parts and maintenance prices are all eye-watering, whatever you have done. They're going the way of E-types.

From what I can see, mileage has a major influence on values.

Enthusiasts may not care, they just want the best car they can use and enjoy. But 'collectors' will have an eye on future values, and rightly or wrongly, mileage is a key factor.

I agree. Whatever anyone says about buying on condition etc and mileage shouldn't matter, to most private buyers anything over 100,000 miles is a no-no.
