Hi Richard, I hope you're well ?
I've a feeling there's more to it than just being able to experience the car on dry roads and thus being able to experience the impressive grip.
I've not driven a 991 GT3 (and truth be known, I've no real desire to) as I realised with both my 997 GT3's that for me anyhow, it really wasn't about ultimate speed or indeed ultimate grip.

As you'll know with your stunning 2.7 RS rep, there's a huge amount of enjoyment to be be gained from it, more of the time and at lower speeds than in the 991.

Put bluntly, cars such as the 991 Turbo S, 991 GT3, Datsun GTR etc, just can't be driven on the road as their makers intended, designed and engineered them to be driven, they now centre so much on outright speed and efficiency, that reaching anything like their limits on the public road is well nigh impossible.

And whilst Porsche AG may have gone to great lengths to engineer some feel, feedback and tactility into the 991 GT3 (in comparison with the "cooking" 991 models). My guess is the car still falls way short of the 997 GT cars (which IMO short well fall of the 996 iterations)

I hope the GT4 provides what prospective owners are looking for, the signs are encouraging, partially I suspect because the GT4 will probably become the new 997/997 GT3, though I do wonder if once again Porsche AG will chase headline numbers, 'Ring times and neck snapping grip at the expense of real tactility and engagement........
I know a cheap solution to all this grip. If you want a car that's fun on public roads put the cheapest set of mahogany tyres on that you can find.... Hey presto, retro feel back wink

Saw quite a few in germany with problems including 4 Uk cars that went over for the weekend to the ring and only one drove home !Two others on ramps with oil chucked out everywhere and waiting for porsche to collect them.Could have been simple problems but the garage did not seem to think so.All of them had had new engines and run them in.
Been told same but third hand so can't verify. If I was one of those owners - if they exist - I would not want to broadcast fact.

What you actually mean is 'no', hence you having to 'guess' what it is like. Whereas I have driven previous versions.

My stitching is fine - standard stitching. Thanks. Did you not choose any interior options when you purchased your car?

You are absolutely right - grip is only part of the story - I guess I was just making the point that he would have only experienced part of what the car can do - it is a bit Jekyll and Hyde in this respect .

I wholeheartedly agree about not being able to drive the 991 GT3 at anywhere near the limits on UK roads - impossible , but after saying that , I have to say it really does feel great to me at all speeds - it really is very special. I have spent some driving time in a 997.2 GT3 , but I didn't own one so I can't really compare - but from what small experience I had, I loved that too . I guess in reality , I probably epitomise the new breed of GT3 owner if there is such a thing - I love driving , on a good day I occasionally think I'm ok at it , but in reality I do not have the skill to extract anything like the full performance out of any of the GT3 iterations - but hey , that doesn't make me any less the enthusiast - just happy to be lucky enought to drive some of what to me, are the nicest cars around - this applies to my old ones too - Keep weel , R smile

Please read Slippydiff's post again, and his many other informed ones too. Not everyone is as enamoured with the technological masterpiece that is the 991 GT3 - that reflects on their preference of what they like to see in a "Porsche GT" car. New comers absolutely love it for it is also very easy to drive.

Do you find the 991GT3 more GT (grand touring) than the earlier versions. Does not make it a lesser car, merely different.

All about preference and type of customer. The GT4 ( AP's pet project) more likely to please that other audience, imo.

It was a fair question - why base an opinion on guesswork?

Plenty of people who have vast amount of experience in earlier versions also think the GT3 is amazing and entirely consistent with the GT3 name.

Plenty of people would disagree with that. The previous version had PASM etc - what makes this car 'so easy to drive' ?

I've only driven previous versions on the track, and not yet driven the 991 GT3 on track.

Best to appreciate how it's different (and how it's not different) by actually driving it...

It wasn't so long ago that people like you were criticising AP as being 'just a marketing man'....

He comes across as a sort of automotive Grimer Wormtongue with chronic schadenfreude, always sniping, feeding greedily on any negativity.

He's generally ignored, yet still he's here....utterley bizarre.

It's fairy telling that he feels the need to 'interrupt' my dialogue with another person, to introduce a vague 'insult' about stitching...

Just got back from a spin out in mine. Absolutely love it, with SE on the growl is getting louder as the miles pile on. Must ring up my insurer and up the valuation too..

Because if history has taught us anything (in relation to Porsche steering tactility, weight, feel and feedback) it's that these subtle nuances rarely improve as Porsche produce their GT cars to appeal to/suitable for use by a wider demographic. On the basis the 991 GT3 is now equipped with EPAS, I think it was a fair assumption to make.
But I also base my assumptions on my previous ownership of the marque, and in these matters, I tend to think (and I hope you'll forgive me for saying as much) I may have slightly more experience to draw upon than you. smile

You may have got lots of experience of previous versions but you've got zero experience of this version.

I have (limited) experience of both, so am better placed than you to make a comparison.

By the way, what steering will the GT4 have..?

I think people are kidding theirselves about the GT4. It will have torque vectoring, electric steering etc, probably not the 4WS but it will have all the aids the GT3 has albeit with an option to have a slower gearbox

They do exist as the cars ended up where i store my car along with some friends.Owners not too impressed though. As i said the problems could have been simple but the mechanics were not so sure.

I am going over again so will ask the cause of the problems.

Question for current owners.

Are you upping your insurance cover value as the car rises in price ???

I upped my insurance to 155k with Aviva and they accepted it straight away for an additional £110. They said the were aware of the price increases of this model and agreed with it..!
