if they do make a cayman with a motorsport team enhanced engine and transmission, i hope they make more than 2 per opc
there is a market for one and it may help porsche offset the cost of developing a cup car, I think its a question of how many years we will need to wait.
Little chance of that I'd say - there's no way that they'll allow more GT4RS than GT4 in my view (if they make it) - 2 per OPC is probably about right.there is a market for one and it may help porsche offset the cost of developing a cup car, I think its a question of how many years we will need to wait.
I'd be quite surprised if they didn't make it though - somewhere between 2 and 4 years from now in my view. I mean everybody has gone crazy for the GT4 already and nobody has driven one yet! Perfect way to keep brand interest / credibility high.

Roughly 50 cars for the UK and launched six months before the next gen Cayman. PDK. That's the rumour from Porsche GB anyway.there is a market for one and it may help porsche offset the cost of developing a cup car, I think its a question of how many years we will need to wait.

Maybe the RS will simply include the X51 power kit ??
Plus ??
Like the 991 GT3 RS... wider track, CFRP bumpers, lids and wing, magnesium roof, bucket seats, clubsport package. I think it would have to have a real Weissach engine. Make it the N/A manual sendoff at the end of the 981.2 production!Plus ??
Total allocation for UK would be one car for every two OPCs.

X51 on it's own with a few GT4 options thrown in and a paint job would be very lazy - this car wouldn't be cheap, I reckon £80-85k basic, so £90 to £100k including options? 'ring time would be very close to 991GT3 but still a long way off the 991GT3RS, which will be what about 7'08" when it's announced?
From Matthias Muller's Geneva presentation:
"A pure racetrack version will follow during the course of the year: 385 horsepower and it’s irrepressibly fun to drive. The Cayman GT4 represents the lowest cost entry into Porsche’s GT world."
Of course this sounds like a cup car rather than a GT4RS, still it bodes well for the future IMHO, especially as GT4 has proven a very popular product.

Evo article:
As the track-ready Porsche Cayman GT4 made its public debut at the Geneva motor show, Porsche Motorsport boss Andreas Preuninger hinted that his department might yet build a faster, lighter RS version.
The Cayman GT4 is the first Cayman model to receive the attention of Preuninger’s team, which has been responsible for each of the stripped-out 911 GT models since the original 911 GT3. Borrowing the 3.8-litre engine from the 911 Carrera S, the Cayman GT4 is the most powerful Cayman to date – but Porsche Motorsport could yet take the concept even further.
Speaking in Geneva, Preuninger said, ‘This is just the beginning of the era. I would be interested in doing a Cayman GT4 RS version, but at the moment we didn’t even talk about such a thing. If the customers call for something like this we could think about it.
‘We underestimated the success of the Cayman GT4, which shows that we were right with the concept. In England, within three days two years of cars were sold. It happened in Sweden, it happened in Germany…everywhere.’
Preuninger also explained his decision to only offer a manual gearbox on the Cayman GT4, saying ‘We put a manual in it for good reason – to show people that we listened.’ Clearly, then, Porsche Motorsport is responsive to its customers’ demands. If enough people call for a Cayman GT4 RS, it might just happen…
So time for us to start making some noise...

I wonder if this was a homologation exercise first and foremost (for these GT4 series) so they decided to build a limited number to accomplish this while at the same time testing the waters for wider demand, and being able to say "we listen to our customers" by speccing manual only. As a marketing exercise its worked a treat (apart from the complete shambles in the UK with regards to the LOI's). The commercial aspect may have been secondary in this instance.
Now that they know demand has gone through the roof they're probably thinking "hang on, we can make a profit from this also". As a result I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more cars next year, but people on this and other forums seem to think that's still looking unlikely. Hopefully we will know soon enough.
I'm looking forward to the press reviews next week. It'll be nice to get away from the whole LOI and allocations piece for a while and focus on the car itself.

If they plan on participating in the GT4 races this year (if that was what the guy presenting in Genva meant when he mentioned a race car later this year) then this current GT4 will have to be the homologation car won't it? I haven't gone through the tech regs for the GT4 series in detail but there are still changes that can be made to the original car. I think bodywork and engine is not one of them, but could be wrong.
What with all the GT4s going like hot cakes, anybody heard any more rumours yet of a RS version at all. I love the compact look of the Gt4 against the 991RS. If they build a RS gt4 I would be there like a shot. Especially a good old manual spec one.
Guy at OPC today I saw thought the likelihood of RS was remote but did hint of possibly more GT4s being built?
However there is a little 918 Spyder at my local OPC for 1.1 mill if anyone interested with 330miles on it, obviously 1st owner didn't like it, must have been a true enthusiast!
