To answer F1TUK I personally think 991GT3's will occupy this price bracket of circa £180k. No more cars being built, no one will get an RS and rumour has it no gen 2 models will be available as porsche will build GT2 instead. I don't want to get into the discussion of whats better but last summer I had to sell either the GT3 or my Speciale (had too many cars) and it was the Speciale that was moved on.

Without a doubt, carrera gt. You really don't want to be stuck slightly uphill waiting on a junction in traffic in that one...but when you get the chance to let loose anything approaching the true capability of the car, there is really very little that can match it i reckon.

To protect and maintain the soaring value of the 991 GT3, what is the consensus of opinion of the maximum mileage these cars should not exceed in 12 months? I have bought ours to use and already have 4 trips planned for the coming year, though would prefer not to trash its value by over use.

They are not making any more Rob and its not going to bring you much fun sat in the garage biggrin

What is the alternative Rob?

Don't drive it much and then you could sell it for more than you paid for it?

Spank the arse off one of the best 911's ever across the Alps and through Switzerland with a massive smile on your face and then sell it in 5 years time for near to what you paid for it?

If you wanted to make and maintain a profit you would have bought another house or flat and rented it out!

Spank it mate, don't worry about the mileage! thumbup

Its an interesting one this mileage/enjoyment/use issue especially with a car as 'practical' and as usable as the 991 GT3 which, as already discussed at length, can really be used as a daily. Problem is as expected,, these cars are hugely mileage sensitive value wise.

Mine has been 'sworned' off road for a time now due to the relatively foul weather, heavily salted roads and largely poor driving conditions where, to take it out would imo be a compromise for such an able and savage car, and where other less able vehicles can be used accumulating mileage. Furthermore there are many other journeys where to rack up the miles on such a car would be a relative waste of time....e.g. sitting in heavily congested traffic in city centre commutes, motorway type mileage when any car is as rapid in the circumstances. On the ocasions, it is far more satisfying to take either a 'snotter', or at least something far less capable in the knowledge you are keeping your p and j for more suitable driving......and the mileage is kept down and value up...win win situation.

But when the weather is right and the journey warrants the cars potential capabilities, there is no better feeling puttng the right kind of mileage on the car.......driving

A few years back a 996 GT3 with 180k miles was sold by 911virgin. When I hear of a car with mileage like that it always makes me think how much fun the owner must have had...

to the question 991 mileage, I suspect >5k miles a year will be fairly normal given how useable they are.

Our last car did 14,000 miles in 12 months! Whilst I do not propose to do quite as many in the GT3 it would be nice to know what is acceptable without it getting a kicking. My understanding is that the average Ferrari owner does 3000 miles a year. More than that and hands our thrown in the air in financial despair !
So far we have managed 1240 miles, it was collected on Dec 2nd. No short trips at all. We even ventured off into Wales yesterday, by the time we hit snow, sleet and 2 degrees we decided to come home. Still managed a hundred miles though. It really is quite something!

I think you are being paranoid!

Unless you do high mileage - 10k or more per annum - I think you are worrying over nothing.

Yes, if in 3 years time you are selling your car and a similarly specced car with a few thousand fewer miles is also available at the same time then, all things being equal, you may obtain a slightly lower price, but I think it will be minimal compared to the gun you will have had adding those miles in the first place.

5-7k miles per annum should be well either 'normal' bounds IMO.

I've done over 5k since September Rob! I've only slowed down a bit but I see myself doing over 10k in the 1st year comfortably!!

Enjoy the car, there are so many factors people look at when buying a used car etc but there will always be someone willing to buy a GT3!!

The other way to look at it is that you bought a brand new car expecting the normal depreciation, but instead the current market allows you to put as many miles on it as you want and still be quids in. What would you be doing with the car in a normal depreciating market? Still worrying about mileage or just getting in it and using it as you originally intended? The market could be completely different by the tme you come to sell anyway, so your efforts to protect the mileage could be for nothing.

The thing is the main dealers need to put at least 10-12% profit on the base value of these cars and they are not finding any stock right now at the prices they need to pay so hence why prices are going up. Would you sell your car now to a main dealer knowing they will just advertise it and add 12% to the value. I have heard of some investors buying the 991 GT3 a few months back and storing them while prices rise! Better than gold right now!!

Doesn't the add refer to a Porsche dealer (car on sale or return?).

I still don't like the clear tail lights!
I'm also not a big fan of the painted skirts etc - I think the matt black plastic provides a nice contrast, regardless of the colour of the car.

I would have to say use it and enjoy it as much as you possibly can. If (protecting) the value is a big issue, sell it and cash in now and get something you don't mind using as much as possible.

Time is our most valuable item - not the value locked in a car. To not use the time to the max would be a huge regret. I say this having had a mate pass away in his early 40s. You live once, as long as you're not being irresponsible with finances, enjoy it.
