Whilst I fully expect the 991 RS to be a great car on track, after driving 911s for over 30 years, no hesitation in saying that 991GT3 is the best road going 911 I have ever driven......
Purely a matter of interest.Where on just about any road, could you use more than 60% of the 991 GT3s ability?

I can safely say it's the most boring GT3 I've driven on the road. It might be a different story on the track, but it lacks the depth of other GT3s to keep it interesting at 5/10ths.
Doesn't make it a bad car, but not as good as the previous generations for road use.
I found my 997.1 GT3 a non event on the road unless willing to risk prison sentencing speeds. Just getting worse by the sounds of it Doesn't make it a bad car, but not as good as the previous generations for road use.

you can say about any car north of 200BHP.......Where on just about any road, could you use more than 60% of the 991 GT3s ability?
Yet you rate it 'as the best 911 road car of the last 30 years'.

Get her to Spain and the mountains ...... the North will feel like a commute on the M62 afterwards.

I've been trying to resist posting negatively against the car but I kind of agree with the above .Doesn't make it a bad car, but not as good as the previous generations for road use.
Given a choice between a straight swap of a GT3 and a 458 I would have swapped it without hesitation .
What I don't get is why you'd even consider these sums when a LHD is circa £100k . I'll be honest I'm not 100% convinced any of these cars have sold yet (to private buyers) . When I sold mine I was lead to believe a certain dealer had bought 7 in the previous 2 weeks , but wasn't advertising them all . Who knows ......
Regardless everyone has a great car and will make a decent premium when / if they ever decide to sell so win win .
I'm hoping ( although slower ) that the GT4 gives me the something I felt was missing .

Nothing wrong with that, that's progress, every new 911 has been "better" than the previous one
It is also about weight - the 73RS, in my opinion probably the best 911 to drive & savour, only had 210ps but was under 1100 kgs. Even at a modest 50mph, the 911RS is fun, the 991 GT3 is not.
And I expect the average 991 GT3 owner is probably older than with the prior versions.

Interesting comment by APOLLO, ref 'Best 911 road car of the last 30 years'. I wouldn't have expected ease of use to go quick, and only being able to use less than half its available power, as a reason for thinking it was so great.
I do wonder that off track, if max BHP has gone a little OTT.

I don't agree sorry. I drove a few hundred miles in a 991 GT3, then a 4.0RS last week. As road cars, they're both great, but I prefer the 991. Just does everything better

I find my 991 GT3 very engaging at "normal" speeds. Very responsive and fun on English B roads at manageable speeds. I feel it alive, noisy and nervous. Exactly as I would want her to be.
Not sure I would prefer it in a 997 RS. But each to their own of course. But I can understand the appeal of the 991 as its a pretty decently rounded package with savage performance, track ability and capable to engage on the normal drive.
Only major complaint I have is sound at low revs which is just too tame.

Which to me, means I struggle to see the point. Surely part of the attraction of an enjoyable (best?) road car, is the fact you HAVE to drive it? Ah ..... Now I understand why it was built an 'automatic'.

The 991 GT3 flatters all drivers. Women like black dresses because their bum does not look as big. But seriously, really good drivers will enjoy phenomenal lap times with this car.Interesting comment by APOLLO, ref 'Best 911 road car of the last 30 years'. The Audi RS chief announced, many years ago, an end to the horsepower race - then turbos came in and off to the race we went again. You are right there is too much power for normal road use, and the control is electronic. Power has doubled in the last couple of decades & more, the driving standards have not, and road conditions/environment/congestion has worsened. The lowest powered Cayman is more than too fast for pubic roads anywhere - even Germany.
I drove my GT3 to Cambridge from west London this week
M25 and M11 - can't go that fast as there are these new cameras I am told etc et
So steady speeds all the way
But despite that I am not using the car to anywhere near its full potential I still smile all the way
I park at South Mimms services for a coffee and walking back to the car I start smiling again
And I say to myself how lucky am I ! I don't want a Ferrari or a Lambo
Even at £180k I am not sure I would sell
What else is there ?

Easily overcome by Sharkwerks/minor modification of sports exhaust of course. Not sure I would prefer it in a 997 RS. But each to their own of course. The 991 provides full engagement in spades.........and it is what most people who haven t driven the car fail to understand.
You don t have to be 'on it' to enjoy the 991.......it is as much about the sense of occasion at normal speeds as knowing you are fortunate enough to be piloting one of the most engaging capable, savage and visceral rapid mile eating cars in the world on your favourite A or B road......
