The steering on my 996 seems to have become a bit wayward, sometime it seems to weight up unnaturally, especially winding off lock coming off roundabouts. Sometime it seems OK sometimes it is quite stiff making it seem like adding lock or taking it off seems quite jerky. I have checked the fluid levels and they are fine, there are no strange noises coming from the pump, even at full lock. I suspect it may be down to the seals inside the steering rack but does anyone else have any thoughts?

If is is the rack how easy a job is it? I like to do as much as I can but can't find a DIY guide anywhere. I have read it needs steering angles set using PIWIS, for ABS and PSM etc. which will make it a difficult DIY.

Thanks

Had a similar issue myself, weighing up when unwinding lock coming off a roundabout is the exact symptom I described. New rack sorted it for me.

Can't help with ease of replacement I'm afraid.

A quick look on www.eurocaparts.com shows a rack to cost c£260 inc VAT. I've no idea on fitting time but I'd guess 3-4 hours plus a geo.
