I don't get all the hype about the 991 GT3 it's just a meh and noisy road car that can be passed by a properly tuned Lotus Exige on track..
I bought into the hype and the next day I returned it for a 991 Turbo S.
At least you can say you had a proper attempt to learn how to drive it...

I see your point here but IMHO, there's not a lot to learn with the GT3 (or the turbo s). You just get in and errrr.... drive it and that's why some people don't rave about it as much as others do. Comparing it unfavourably to a 991 turbo is a bit curious though......

How long did you have your 991 GT3 to get to learn about its abilities?

Between the two of them, long enough. How many other Porsche GT cars have you owned for long enough to come to the conclusion that the 991 GT3 is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

A day is enough to know that the GT3 is just hype and a day in a proper Turbo S is enough to know a day wasted in a GT3...

Here in the canyons of Zog all posers are banned...

Sorry I must have misinterpreted all your posts jumping to the defence of the 991 GT3. Which one do you think is the best one and why? 996? 7.1? 7.2RS? 991? Other?

I'd also like to know what you actually have to "learn" in order to drive the 991 GT3? With most cars, the things you really need to learn are its limits and most people that have a 991 GT3 are unlikely to get anywhere near them. I include myself in that group by the way. YMMV.

Now that the suspension end been upgraded to assist with the extra payload, I think the 'solution' would be to fit side step to drivers side to allow easy access, bench seating, snooze control, and a 2lt mocha-chocca - latte-skinny mug holder.
I'd also add a small generator to assist with the 'lift' function.

Be like , totally, like awesome.

You really have a thing against the GT3, I think most get that now. Not sure why you feel the need to down it constantly, especially to poor old Mr Sidicks. Guaranteed a reaction though.
I have one and love it, not as much as my older car, but its still phenomenal. Not sure what you have, but bet you love it or them too, hope you enjoy them as much as others enjoy their choices.

I don't need to 'jump to the defence' of the 991 GT3 - I simply challenge the opinions of those who often make comments on ares where they have no experience.

Unlike some, I don't comment on things where I have little experience...

I've never once claimed that the 991 GT3 is better than any of the previous versions, just challenged those who made uninformed comments!!

Makes no difference what others think, as far as I'm concerned. However the weight of general (informed) opinion suggests the 991 GT3 is up there amongst the best!

Exactly Sid. Hinge and Bracket will be along soon to offer more opinion on something they have never driven. Don't give the benefit of a reaction. You just encourage.

I don't have a thing against them, they are great cars. I actually mostly agreed with sidicks above, yet he steamed straight in and asked me how long I'd had my 991 for as if I didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Just because I don't believe there's a lot to "learn" in driving one fast, doesn't mean I think they are cr*p! There's no real skill in driving a 991 GT3 really really fast as they are so capable. So is the 991 turbo S. That was all I was trying to say.

991 Turbo S and GT3 are certainly capable cars, I have driven both extensively on various tracks, including Leipzig, Istanbul Park, YAS Marina, amongst others and both can produce quite similar lap times on those circuits but are very different in the way they need to be driven in order to achieve the best times.

As to the comment that there's no real skill in driving a 991 GT3 really really fast...... seriously? I think you need to refer back to Andrew D's comment about planet Zogg!

Yes the 991 GT3 is hugely capable car and isn't especially hard to drive at a reasonable pace on a good circuit, but to drive it at its considerable limits takes a great deal of skill, precision and no small about of balls; on one of the above mentioned tracks you are turning in at over 210kph to a 90 degree right in the GT3 and if you get that wrong by 30cms you will be in for one of the biggest track accidents you will ever walk away from, so I am sorry but....... to say there is no skill is utter nonsense!

The more capable a car is, the faster it can be driven on any given surface and to control it on the limit takes greater skill sets and faster reactions, if you don't know that I hope I am never on a track anywhere near you when you are driving 'really really fast'

As for the original poster, who reckons he learnt enough in 24 hours to condemn the GT3, you must be a rare talent behind the wheel my friend as it took me a good deal longer than that to explore the road & track limits of the 991 GT3 and I do it for a living!
