I came across this thread recently, and at the risk of eliciting some less than complimentary remarks wanted to share my impressions in roughly 4000 miles of 991 GT3 ownership. I should preface my remarks by saying I have owned 911s of various types for over 30 years both normally-aspirated and turbocharged, all with manual gearboxes. For the past 12 or so years I have driven both 996 and 997 turbos. I loved both models and found them wonderfully enjoyable to drive. When the 991 Turbo was announced with only a PDK I thought I might try a GT3 for a different experience, my reasoning being that I thought I'd like a more focused drive in the absence of a manual option. I was lucky enough to get one from new and have to say the car is absolutely wonderful. I was worried that I might find the ride too harsh for my purposes, but really shouldn't have been concerned. The first thing I noticed was the refinement of the damping, making my old 997 turbo feel a little crude in comparison, and making it far easier to apply power on less than perfect surfaces. The second strong impression I had was the wonderful sensation of a freer revving engine, something I had forgotten about whilst enjoying the massive torque of the turbos. I'm not sure which is better than the other, other than to say I enjoy both immensely and it's great to have a normally aspirated engine again. The next feature of the car which bowled me over was the turn-in and agility compared to my turbo. On stretches of road I know well with a variety of different corners I found I could just point the car at the apex and it would go where it was asked; on the 997 turbo I found myself having to fight the steering by comparison. I suspect this is due to the rear-wheel steering. PDK versus manual? This is the first automatic I have ever owned, and it is staggeringly good. For my purposes the car is very usable in all conditions, and extremely civilized, which just happens to suit my purposes, although I know that some like a more uncompromising drive. I'm not really concerned about the trade-off between torque and the delivery of power at high revs, the car is exceptionally quick for anyone's purposes, and is just an absolute delight to drive. I was concerned about wet weather handling, and was lucky enough to have my PEC session last November in torrential rain, which allowed me to experience the car in such a way as to get some insight into its handling characteristics under less than ideal conditions and in a controlled environment. The car was predictable and enjoyable , with the electric steering providing great feedback.
Apologies for the length of the post, but in conclusion I'd like to say both the turbo and the GT3 are wonderful but different machines. In fact I am enjoying my 991 GT3 so much I have put in a LOI for a subsequent iteration of the 991 GT3 RS. Folorn hope I know, but what the hell.
And to Drmark, I think the DB4 Zagato probably does trump everything on here.

Trolling rubbish ? I wish it were a "kit" car then I could have just bought it like you did with your GT3 but instead I designed and built it from the frame up and every nut and bolt torqued by me.Back to your canyon in your kit car!
It would be fun to see you in your bought not built Porsche in a canyon or any track run against my built Rs211.... Hell my 991 Turbo S would stomp your GT3 in the canyons and on track....

Taffy, the Racing/Speed Yellow GT3 is stunning. I looked at your photos and was bowled over by the scenery and roads. I am from down South but would very definitely like to explore the Scottish Roads and have been studying some of the recommended routes on the Porsche web site. A friend currently driving on the Mille Miglia recently participated in a test run in the Highlands prior to the event, and couldn't stop talking about how wonderful the roads were, even if the weather in Italy is presently a little better.I am the very lucky owner of the Racing Yellow club sport appearing in LindsayMac's photos above.
